Coming from the Chinatowns of the states; San Francisco, New York, & Los Angeles, Manchester’s Chinatown came to me as a big surprise. It is quite small and very quiet, the very opposite of the ones I am used to. I definitely would not take this on a negative note. If anything, it is quite nice, and for me, a good change of perspective. Especially with the history of Chinese immigrants in the United States differing from that of the United Kingdom, so it somewhat makes sense. Diverting away from the history aspects of Chinatowns, Manchester’s Chinatown is basically 4 – 6 blocks, made up of a good number of restaurants, a couple of supermarkets and specialty stores and a massage parlor or two. And in the middle, there is a small park where older folks and children congregate(very similar to the ones back home!). I’d say this place would have you exploring for 3 – 4 fun-filled hours! This Chinatown is somewhat«outshined» by Arndale, but I would definitely have to say that there is a lot of potential for growth here. Definitely check it out!

Compared to Chinatown in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, etc. this is one of the smaller. Granted yes, it is in Manchester UK. It has a nice selection of restaurants, a small gate(as noted by Chinese friends from China when visiting). Chinese friends also noted that they found Sushi restaurants as well(Japanese). If seeking Asian food in Manchester this is a great destination.
