On waking one morning last week, I decided…“it’s time for a hair cut” as you do! Hmm, what options are available to me in the City Centre I thought? I know, lets look on Unilocal(I hear you cry) although not much on there with regard to reviews for Gents Barbers :( Anyway, on finishing another long day at work and heading my way through the wind, rain and usual hustle and bustle of the City Centre — I descended upon City Barbers. On entering downwards via some stairs(beneath the city) is this where to find all the hidden gems? — I thought… it opened up into a salon area with three chairs and two fellas snipping away. «Not long to wait» was the cry, and so down I sat and waited for my turn, meanwhile flicking through the magazines and papers dotted around the table. After a short wait(5 – 10 Min’s) not bad for a Tuesday evening, I was called over and took my seat in what at first looked like something from Mastermind, I was only too glad when he decided not to ask my specialist subject. :) A quick discussion was had as to the required style, length, shaved, not shaved etc and an agreement was met to let proceedings begin. The lad that tended to me was very polite, the usual conversations were had: weather, work, football etc. he also took a keen interest in my snooker playing, which was another reason for the hair cut, due to a tournament that evening. Whilst having my haircut a couple of people has bobbed their heads in to check on opening times. being the city centre I was quite impressed to hear 8am-8pm…wow I said that’s some long hours, and was told by my barber that he starts at 8am and at 10am the other chap starts — leaving him able to leave at 6pm and the other guy ‘finishes off’ until 8pm — they seem to have that spot on. Anyway, the haircut was complete and not too bad — was my initial reaction, not a huge fan of haircuts — truth be told, but needs must etc. So, up I got from the Mastermind type chair and paid my bill of £12.00 — again, I suppose not to bad for a two-guy set up in the City Centre. On leaving the guy wished me good luck for my snooker and told me his name… very apt I though, wait for it… Shaun(go figure!) All in all, not to bad, very clean and the service was very cheerful, just enough to pick you up after a busy day, and an extra review for gents barbers cannot be a bad thing… can it?
