3 out of 5 stars because the wine was RIDICULOUSLY expensive. What is it with Hotels? £9 for a large glass? Come on now. Food was tasty. Duck croquette with asparagus was lovely, and the un-Cullen skink was an unusual but interesting alternative. I didn’t get to dessert but they sounded nice. Hank was my friendly waiter, and he managed to persuade me to treat myself on a Tuesday night after a hard day. I’m surprised I didn’t get a dessert really!

I attended Cruz 101 after a Lady GaGa gig on a Thursday night and, to be quite frank, I couldn’t have timed my visit any better. Essentially, Cruz 101 is a big enough club that is as loud as it is brazen. The soundsystem is very good indeed, not that there’s a crowd of chin stroking audiophiles in there and, on the night I was in, it played loads of unabashed pop which everyone was very keen to dance along, get plastered and cop off with each other to. Great fun indeed. From what I can gather, it seems like it is constantly pretty busy(or VERY busy on the weekend) but the crowd are good value indeed. The drink is cheap enough and it stays open pretty late. If you like your kicks simple and puerile, then this is a fine place to spend an evening. That said, I heard rumours it was closing which is depressing indeed. I kinda hoped to go back there so with any luck, what I heard was completely wrong. A great club. Big, dumb and friendly. Perfick.

Should you cruise on down to Cruz 101? Or should it be condemned to room 101? Answer: If you’re gay, its great. If you’re straight, its great! Cruz 101 has got to be the best gay club in Manchester. Its probably the biggest, the busiest, and the cheapest. The music is great, very cheesy of course, but if that’s not what you wanted, you wouldn’t even be in the area, or on this web page. Its got small podiums for dancing on, and a varied clientele all up for having a laugh and all completely having left their inhibitions at home, so you’re bound to meet new people, whether you want to or not. The only thing to be careful of is that its very hard to get in. I’d say ive tried about ten times, and probably been turned away five times. If you’re a large group of lads in football shirts you’ve got absolutely no chance, but if you’re a small group of girls and boys you should be alright, but even then its not guaranteed. One thing you can do, as the other reviewer has done, is get a membership card. This can be done easily online by filling out a quick form, and will guarantee you entry if you don’t want to risk being at a loose end. Drinks are strong and cheap, lots of spirits and mixers and alcopops, though you can get a bottle of beer. Everyones friendly, just embrace it and don’t by shy.

It’s cheap and cheerful although the locals tend to avoid the weekends and seem more inclined to go to Cruz during the week. Mondays are my favourite night. The place is obviously much bigger and there’s more happening when the downstairs floor is also open which plays harder house and trance to compliment the disco and cheesy pop upstairs. If you get too hot lots of people tend to mingle on the stairs. They recently had a refurbishment and the toilets are far better than they used to be. For any Trans people out there you might be interested to know that the downstairs toilets(when it is open) are Unisex.

I find Cruz 101 to be less camp than some of the other clubs in the Village. A little smaller than some places so it can get quite busy. It cost £5 to get in on a Friday night a few months back, so not too expensive. Bar prices were pretty much average for the area. Oh, and you can buy poppers behind the bar! Cruz 101 is definitely aimed more at gay men than gay women/mixed crowd, I did get the impression had I not been out with two gay men, I might have been told it was members only night

I would say that Cruz 101 is only the third-trashiest gay club in Manchester. I think the first most has the word«Granny» in it, and the second-most has the word«Candy» in it. I’ll have to go look those up.* I still have my membership card. It was required! And they’d send me emails for years. I love it. The only thing I recall is that I had to wait around for my friend to pull around 10 times in a night, while I’d walk away with a bratty bottom staring me down as I left. Oh yeah, we went home with two French dudes that night. But just for conversation, in French, and of course I was the only one who didn’t speak. One was dreamy, the other was greazy and repulsive. Oh yeah! And Cruz 101 is strangely the first place some international student club took us to mingle, and some really tight-toothed Israeli dude kept running his finger down my chest and complimenting my US Army jacket. Apparently, he was forced to wear one as a hand-me-down in his military days. And some other dudes kept commenting on my hand-knit gloves with holes. *Sniff*, I miss those gloves. I remember the drinks being strong, and in plastic. (*Looked it up. The first trashiest is the New Union Hotel, not the Granny. Refer my review.)

I find cruz a better alternative to essentials, although not as big, the atmosphere is always good. There are two levels offering different music styles depending on what night you visit. Personally my favourite night is thursday, cheesy pop night! It gets packed and is always a good laugh. The bar prices are about average for a club. There is a cloakroam thats cost £1 and they do wrist bands for £1 which allows you to go outside then re-enter. The toilets arent always clean, the queues arent too bad for them though. The crowd is predominantly male although there is a good mix on thursdays.

Always end up here. Open very late at the weekends. On two floors, two bars on top floow, and one on lower floor(which opens at weekends). Large dancefloor on both floors. Everyone’s always up for a dance, chill out areas on both floors to rest your weary legs. someone always ends up talking to you, down to earth and friendly. Must say I was annoyed one night when I didn’t pay for a wrist band to go out for a ciggie, so when I went back indoors, I was charged entrance again! Watch out for this. Strict gay door policy, some of my straight friends have been knocked back.

is located just out the out skirts of the Village in Manchester and is a great night out. I always go on a Saturday, its £7 in the, if you go on a Friday its only £5 but I don’t think its anywhere near as good. Don’t be fooled by the name its not as sleazy as many of the pubs and clubs in the Village, it is quite small in comparison with some but It is still a good night out. The play current pop and music, they don’t take requests which is a bit disappointing. The drinks can be quite costly most of the times but they are always so busy I guess they can really charge what they like. If you do smoke be prepared to pay £1 for a wrist band of go out side to smoke. This is really annoying particularly when it is winter. Try not to be to drunk when your going in because they do turn away quite a lot
