So many things to plan for when it comes to a wedding, one of those being hair and makeup! I was a bit worried I wouldn’t be able to find someone on short notice. I used a Google search and one of the top results was for Danielle Horan Hair and Makeup. After looking at a couple of websites and also having looked through portfolios of wedding photographers, I was looking for something different, something that would stand out. After clicking on her portfolio, I noticed that she had a section for Pin Ups. My dress was a vintage, 50’s style dress, so a Pin Up look would compliment the dress. Her prices are on the website, including information on travel costs, etc. and from some of the other websites, her prices are very reasonable. She also has a handy contact form or you can ring her on the number listed. I filled out the form and a few hours later she responded saying she was available and would be happy to do my hair and makeup. Whenever I sent a message she was very quick to respond and very helpful in her answers. On the trial day, there was an accident on the route she was travelling on so she was a bit delayed, but she was very apologetic and set up very quickly. I showed her a couple of pictures of what I was thinking about and also mentioned the pin up section of her website. She was really excited about creating a pin up look for me. She is so flexible, but can also make recommendations based on her experience if you are unsure about something. Danielle is also very perceptive as she did notice that I have sensitive skin and also asked me if I was allergic to anything… people mention the sensitivity of my skin, but no one actually asks if there are any cosmetics that cause problems and actually there are some brands that do cause irritation, so I was delighted that she asked. She is also a wealth of knowledge as we talked about my breakouts as well as the psoriasis on my scalp, so I knew I could trust her not to do anything that would aggravate these conditions. I also have some scarring and she was able to cover it up so you couldn’t see it. She gave me a couple of different options for hair and let me see each one before deciding on a particular style. When she finished and I chose my hair style, we tried it with the veil. Not only did it meet my expectations, but it was better than I could have imagined. Danielle took some pictures for me and also took a 360 video so she could remember the details and make sure everything would be perfect on the day. On the day, she showed up bang on time at the hotel, set up quickly, and away we went. She did offer to stop and let me have some coffee or some of the pastries Mr. Snarky brought from the breakfast room. Since my dress didn’t have a zipper at the back, I had to put my dress on before she started hair and makeup, but she placed a robe over me to protect the dress. The process went smoothly and I was ready about an hour later. We did go for a different colour of lipstick on the day, but it was gorgeous. She also used a setting spray to help the makeup stay, even if I was a sobbing mess… and it worked! We didn’t have a professional photographer, but her work was so great that I looked glowing and gorgeous even with our amateur cameras. And my hair was still beautiful the next day on, no frizz, beautiful curls, and hair still soft and supple. So really I got hair for two days, not just one :). I can’t recommend Danielle enough! She is very professional, but makes you feel very comfortable, she has loads of experience, and does amazing work. Besides weddings, she does do hair and makeup for Boudoir and Glamour shoots as well as commercial and fashion shoots. I am so glad that she was able to do my hair and makeup for my wedding and if I could afford to fly her over to the states for next year’s celebration, I totally would!
