I really enjoyed dough for only the second time ever. I had a surf and turf pizza, it was novel and tasty to have prawns and steak mixed in with pepperoni and chillies :) the crust was thin and crispy with very little actually crust, some folk will see that as a plus, I’m quite the fan of the crust though. The style of dough is clean and classy though a little packed and it gets very busy and full. The staff are efficient and friendly to boot. All in all its a cracking pizza, just a little shy of awesome…

Came here with some uni friends because we have a lot of people with dietary requirements — vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, dairy free. You know what? They cater for all. There’s a great selection and the sharing boards are delicious(who doesn’t like a sharing board??). Great for groups as well as more intimate settings, a little on the pricey side for drinks but then again it is the northern quarter so it is to be expected…

Everyone who knows dough raves about it… I’ve been twice and thought the pizzas were pretty average… possibly even not as good a very average pizza express. I don’t the the value is great and I haven’t seen anything particularly outstanding about dough either as a business overall or as pizza seller. I personally don’t think the value for money is good but there is an added factor of NQ Location which means you pay a premium above businesses in other locations. I wouldn’t avoid this place but I’m not going to run their either…

Nice place with a good atmosphere in the Northern Quarter but personally I though the pizza’s were mediocre. I am a bit of a snob when it comes to pizza, having lived and travelled around Italy where I’d have at least 2 pizzas a week… sometimes 2 in a day! If you’re like me and love a traditional Italian pizza then I wouldn’t recommend Dough. They have interesting topping combinations but the flavours are bland and the dough has more of a light(in colour) and thin bread texture — similar to the ready made pizzas you get in supermarkets(the own brand ones!). But on a good note the service is pretty good and the location is great.

**Disclaimer; this review just made me realize I had pizza for lunch 3 days in a row… RESULT. Nom Nom Nom, all this Pizza-Off chat has got me hungry, hungry and thinking about great pizza I’ve eaten recently — alas Dough’s review. I came here for lunch a couple of days back with some friends from out of town as I was feeling brave and thought I’d take them somewhere I hadn’t been yet(brave/selfish use whichever word you like). I was torn between the smoked salmon pasta and the Americana pizza as both sounded great and are 2 of my favourite dishes, however I opted for the later Pizza — and it was great! A solid amount of meat of top without overflowing and killing the taste and not too much sauce to offset it! My friends all got pasta dishes and they looked and smelt fantastic, so I have a feeling Dough will become a lunch time favourite for me!

Decent Northern Quarter pizza. Oh, you want more details? Okay then. I’ve been to Dough many, many times. It’s been popular since it opened in 2009 and if you want to eat in on a Friday or Saturday night, you’d better book. You don’t need to book much in advance — on the day is fine, but arriving as a walk-in will probably see you waiting a long time. Thinking you can skip the wait by ordering take away? Think again; you’ll wait just as long for pizza in a box. The restaurant is still busy the rest of the week but you’ll probably be able to get away without a reservation. The result of all this is a great atmosphere; it isn’t too loud to converse with your fellow diners but you don’t feel like you’re dining in an art gallery, either. The menu includes some nibbles, some starters, some salads and a couple of pasta dishes but the star is unashamedly the pizza. They make their own fresh dough daily, hence the name. As a result, they can accommodate just about any dietary requirement, with gluten free, dairy free and vegetarian listed on the menu. They’ve been able to do vegan in the past, too. The bases are good in any variety but let’s face it, they’re a vehicle for the toppings and very much the supporting act in a pizza. The variety of toppings is great and the menu combinations well thought out. Many people swear by The Breakfast(£9.95), with bacon, eggs, sausage and mushrooms but there are loads of options to try. On our most recent visit I had the Sticky BBQ Chicken(£9.20) which was suitably moist and tasty. There’s even a Pulled Pork pizza(£9.85) to satisfy late-to-the-party NQ hipsters. The pizzas aren’t overwhelming and one per person works well, not filling you to the point of rolling out and ruining the rest of your night. If you do end up with leftovers the staff will box them up no problem, and who doesn’t love cold pizza?! I can’t add much on the service as it’s just what you’d hope for. Efficient and friendly, timely and attentive without being overbearing. I’ve customised orders(add this topping, leave that one off) but haven’t had to rely on staff’s knowledge of the menu much, after all, it’s pizza and the toppings are listed on the menu. I will no doubt continue dining at Dough, a reliable Northern Quarter fixture, when a casual meal at short notice is on the cards. If you haven’t been, you should pay them a visit next time you’re hankering after pizza.

For years, as far as I was concerned, there was only one pizzeria in Manchester — I had wandered into Croma before visiting anywhere else and never looked back. Occasionally friends would insist there were even better places out there, a couple swore by Dough, but I lacked the guts and adventure to go anywhere other than my surefire good meal at Croma. Fortunately fate intervened when a bunch of colleagues invited me to join them for a meal at Dough, and I am pleased to report that Manchester has multiple transcendental pizza parlours. Dough’s pizzas taste outstanding, with really great ingredients and topping combinations. And they are really accommodating with substitutions. When I asked for an extra ingredient on my veggie pizza, they neither hesitated or even charged me for it. Now that’s service! They are slightly pricier than Croma’s city centre offering, though with most being £8.50-£10 it isn’t a hugely costly meal. Dough also has a modest but enticing selection of risottos and pasta dishes which I may have to return to try. And in truth there is little more to say. The waiting staff are very polite and helpful, the place looks nice and the food is outstanding — particularly for the price. I won’t be abandoning my favourite early bird deal in Manchester any time soon, but I may be alternating visits with Dough from now on.

Wait do I like pizza now? I’m sorry but I hate pizza its like simpsons at this point too much of a good thing and all but that said I had a lovely time at this slick modern venue. There is a distinct air of professionalism about the place which took me by surprise. More than just pizza there are several options of drinks and sides and thats before you get to the pizzas. A vegan pizza option! wow top marks already, the pizzas are made thin or the right way as history will tell and were delightful. The larger men and women may find disappointment in the size of the pizzas but I guess we’re all fat enough at this point to complain. The floor plan is fairly open and breathable but I would like for more options for more privacy and intimacy if this place is a serious date night contender. The décor is slick and minimalist with a fantastic logo that from a design perspective deserve credit. The lady looking after us was nice and attentative without oversteping her mark. Overall a great evening if a little pricey, if you like pizza at all your going to love this place. Not really my kind of thing and I didnt really like the chairs but I can totally respect the acclaim this place gets as you can do far worse pizza wise.

I have eaten here a few times, and as pizza places go it is one of my favourites in the city centre, not only because what they serve is lovely but also because almost all of my friends can eat here too, they cater for pretty much every food allergy and preference, even their vegan cheese melts. The staff are very capable and friendly. Even at busy times it does not feel like you have to wait to long to be served, if you like avoiding the crowds then I recommend a Sunday lunchtime visit. Last time I ordered in Dough I was buying 9 take out pizzas which felt a bit odd, but they were as good as always, and very much enjoyed by all the people who took part in eating them(not me this time). You can also book a table if you are that well prepared :)

This was a fab restaurant with very friendly staff. We ordered the gluten free gnocchi to start. It was beautifully presented in a ramekin on a wooden board with shavings of parmesan. The texture of the gnocchi was quite unusually doughy and unlike regular gnocchi, if I was to make a comparison I would say they were more like dumplings. The accompanying tapenade was really tasty as was the tomato sauce. For the main course I went for the feta and rosemary pizza with the gluten free base with regular onions instead of caramelised. I did not regret my choice! The crust was crunchy and the topping was tasty. The base was slightly gooey but it’s a gf base and there’s only so much a chef can do. The pepper dews were sweet and spicy and the feta added a nice tangy flavour. My partner ordered the Italian steak and from the way he wolfed the pizza down, I gather he enjoyed it. There was definitely no room for dessert and I even ended up taking a to go box!

I’d heard on the vegan grapevine that Dough do a mighty fine pizza. The vegan grapevine was 100% spot on. It seemed like a pretty popular place, so I made an online booking, on a system that was very user friendly, so that was a great start. We arrived a little bit early, but it was no problem, and we were shown to a table straight away. We had a few nibbly starters. The rosemary over sized croutons were amazing — giant fluffy things, with plenty of sea salt, oil and balsamic for dipping. We also ordered a few interesting beers — a delicious Hawaiin one, and I think one from Peru — both very good. But the main event was the pizza. I can’t begin to describe to you how pleased I was at being able to order a vegan pizza(with delicious melty vegan cheese) that was also gluten free. This is very unusual! I ordered the ‘seasonal wild mushrooms with garlic oil and fresh parsley’, and of course I added Truffle oil too. So many mushrooms, and so much tasty garlic. My word it was delicious. The base was made from scratch, with no funny ingredients, and the whole thing was just an epic pizza. I promise you, it tasted like a normal pizza. I was so happy! We didn’t manage desserts, but I reckon I’d make a good attempt at it next time. The service was excellent throughout, with lovely friendly staff, and prompt attention.

I’m bound to love this place as my favourite comfort food is pizza but Dough really adds something different to your usual choices. I’ve been a handful of times and always aim to try something new– the reggae pizza was a winner for me with jerk chicken and banana(nope, I don’t mean plantain). The pizzas are so unusual but work… and definitely something I wouldn’t even bother trying to attempt at home as I’d turn out grim no doubt. It’s linked to a pretty cool cocktail bar which I recommend going to afterwards called Apotheca. You definitely can’t go wrong with this place(either of them that is)

Love this place. Great specials. Didn’t blink when I ordered a cheese free, wheat free, gluten free pizza when I was on a super strict diet. The price is ok considering its in the Northern Quarter. Good surrounding bars but check out the one that’s connected to it next door.

A mix of it being a busy Saturday night contributing to not always finding it easy to get attention of a staff member, and them hitting one of my restaurant bugbears, made me feel I had to knock a half a star off and I’ve decided to be harsh and round down! Our drinks order was taken quickly and we had to ask the waiter to come back a couple of times because we were getting our heads around the menus. I didn’t recognise any of the beers but the selection included bottled beers from countries I had no idea produced beer(Hawaii?!) so we selected a couple at random and they were both really tasty and refreshing. The menu had a green dot to signify ‘vegetarian available’ and a blue dot to signify ‘dairyfree available’. I’m thinking does a green dot mean it’s suitable for vegetarians, or could be made suitable… if there isn’t a blue dot does that then mean there’s dairy in it… if there’s a green dot and a blue dot what about egg, because I’m vegan… Oh, this was going to be more complicated than I thought it would be. The waiter explained we could swap pizza toppings for no extra charge — which should be the case at other pizza joints, but isn’t. We went for cheesey garlic pizza bread(dairyfree option) and it was brilliant because not only do you not need to bring your own dairyfree cheese but also a swap to it does not incur an extra charge, unlike other pizza places I can think of. I chose the Torn Roasted Pepper pizza because it had apple soaked cous cous on it and — as I told the waiter — I’d never had cous cous on a pizza so that was a bit of a novelty. Mr D went for the goats cheese pizza as even after removing the goats cheese itself it still left a good few toppings that he liked, plus the df cheese. Cheesey garlic bread was amazing and I wolfed my half down, parsnip crisps were alright. Pizzas were delicious, however, it took me a few minutes of cutting it into slices and digging into and under the toppings to ascertain there was definitely no cous cous on my pizza. I hate food waste, and we were asked if everything was ok with the food before I’d even taken my first bite, so I kept eating as it was still a good pizza. I knew the lack of cous cous — item not as described — would make it into my review so when I had two slices left I decided I must say something and managed to eventually catch the attention of the waiter, just to point out there had definitely been no cous cous added to my pizza. He went to check with the chef and they said the only thing they could think was that because there was note to make the pizza dairyfree then they shouldn’t put cous cous on it because it contained gluten. The base had gluten! Why have a dietary code on the menu when the chef doesn’t know the difference between dairyfree and gluten free?! There is no gluten cow! Oh!!! That really annoys me. The waiter brought us over a little pot of cous cous and it did actually make our pizzas taste even better. For desserts we had an option of an orange cake, sorbets, or chocolate truffles and mixed berries; we opted to share a portion of the truffles. They tasted like peanut butter and were nicely sweet. I would definitely return as the waiting staff, though rushed off their feet, were helpful and friendly, I liked the menu, and dairyfree cheese offerings in a non-veggie restaurant is always a big plus with me. But Couscous-gate lost them a star! Grr!

I really like Dough but hardly ever come here despite living round the corner. My most recent visit was Friday with mum. We were seated quickly and our drinks order taken soon after. We just had a glass of Pinot Grigio rose which was lovely and at £4.80 per large glass, very reasonable. We had the baby beets and parsnip chips to nibble on. They were served within 5 minutes of ordering and tasted great. Mum hardly got a look in with the beets as I couldn’t stop munching on them. If you’re not a fan of beet root then this isn’t for you(obviously, duh!) but otherwise give it a try. The pizzas only arrived 5 minutes or so after the nibbles. Very quick service which is great and impressive for a busy Friday night. We both had the margarita and it was very good — tasty sauce, nice thin base and not overly cheesy. We both polished the whole thing off. The waiters were friendly throughout and had their eyes on the ball so attended to us well even on a busy evening. At around £28 all in it is very reasonably priced. On my latest visit I noticed that they also do takeaway, as I saw a couple of people leaved with takeaway boxes. This is handy to know for NQ/city centre residents. As a final thought, I also thought that it would be good as a first date place as it has a relaxed atmosphere, which will help things along(hopefully) plus a good place for people watching should conversation dry up. Win win!

With Dough being attached to the cocktail bar Apotheca, I thought that this might make it rather loud inside, but I was gladly mistaken when I enjoyed a nice quite meal. This restaurant is clearly always busy as every time I’ve been I’ve had to wait a while for a table, but because the food is so good it’s always worth the wait. Pointer — probably best to try and book a table beforehand, this can be done online, via their website. You can see your pizza being freshly made, so you always know what you’re getting. There’s a lot of choice on the menu as well, ranging from your usual pepperoni and ham and pineapple to duck and hoi sin or salmon! Great location, great pizza.

Random last minute decision to drop in here on Sunday after a bit of shopping in town! Pizza toppings and varieties are delicious and plentiful but I wasn’t dying about the pizza base itself… don’t know if it’s personal preference and perhaps a different style of base but i wasn’t overly impressed! My opinion is that pizza bases should be thin and crispy with the crunchy bubbly bits around the crust where the air from the yeast has gathered, not just flat as a pancake! Found the restaurant itself is a bit bland and clinical but the staff were friendly… the waiter forgot about our drinks and without any complaint whatsoever he served us our drinks whilst simultaneously telling us that he had taken them off the bill… i’ll not argue with that thankyou very much! In summary with pizzas starting around £8 its good value for money and tasty, but wouldn’t be in a mad rush to hit it up as my go-to pizza hub!

It’s my birthday, I’ll cry if I want too. This experience with Dough, brought me close to tears. I had high expectations for Dough, with a previous November visit, where I planned for me to go their for my birthday dinner, they told me about the Christmas Menu and a Paella, the girl who spoke to me was lovely but this all changed today. Dough have launched a new menu, hence removing Paella pizza and adding The Christmas Pizza and The Pea and Ham Rissoto, to the normal menu. I was upset to find out, that everyone in my party, had to choose one menu, I planned to order from the Christmas Menu and everyone else, the normal menu, they told me they couldn’t do it because of numerous parties, I don’t understand, they have the food items and I asked if they could make an exception — even if it means some people getting their food earlier than others. The staff on my recent visit, were really unfriendly and some barely understood english, the staff didn’t seem to know about the street parking outside and policies around Dough, like simply the menu. They were very strict, forcing me to choose between the 2 menus and offered drinks staight away, just after the last person in the group had sat down, hence not giving time to even think or chat . I ordered a Christmas Pizza GF, However I was told that I could not have the sauasage, I did not understand why the breakfast sausage was marked as gluten free and this wasn’t however she told me that was a mistake on the menu, what I find pretty silly as the previous menu had mistakes on it to, I was going to order the Breakfast Pizza, but I didn’t fancy it without sausage so opted for The Christmas Pizza. The Paella Pizza, the previous member of staff when it was on the menu, could not run out of plaudits on the menu, she was the only nice member of staff, who I spoken to her and unfortunately the staff did not live up to her standard on my birthday visit, and days later the Paella Pizza was removed from the menu. The Pizza base was okay, but the toppings were awful and fell off, they were chewy and simply horrible and inedible. I couldn’t even stomach mine, so after spending 10 pound on a Pizza, I had to go and spend another tenner at Pizza Hut! I really had a problem with the chairs, they really were not comfy and for some of teh evening, I was swapping chairs and even using a cushion, the member of staff just laughed at me for asking if they had different chairs — luckily I found one, instead of being nice and helpful, I found one staff member arrogant and rude, she even told me «They will be no mistakes if I wrote the menu» I think they is additional seating downstairs, with toilets their but this store say they have Wheelchair access but they is no lift and the only toilets, down a big flight of stairs. They is music played here, not very loudly but in a restaurant, like this I didn’t like it and especially Christmas carols, really helped get on my nerves before my meal, especially during the Menu and Chair saga. The waitress told me all juices were freshly squeezed, I don’t believe that as it tasted like it was out of a carton, it didn’t even taste like it was freshly squeezed earlier on in the day. My friend offered sympathy at my Pizza, and let me try some of her risotto, I was looking forward to ordering this myself, but The Waitress Grinch(Can I say that?), didn’t let me have it as a starter. When I tried her meal, I found it very watery and just couldn’t stomach that either. Overall, I have to give Dough a big demotion to 1 stars from 4, as my high expectations were simply not met so i feel this place deserves 1 star and due to the rude staff, uncomfy seating and terrible food I can’t see why this place has such good reviews, and I really don’t understand their door sign«People love us on Unilocal» The Menugate saga is just a scam, and is not worth it for the quality of food.

I have been there a few times now and never once have I walked out disappointed or let down. They’ve delivered each and everytime. Staff are very polite and friendly too. If you’re not sure of what to order talk to the staff and ask for their recommendation. I would have particularly recommended the West Indies pizza. It was amazing! But the Moroccan seems a good alternative.
