Euronews is good because they sell most major newspapers and magazines and have a fridge of soft drinks including the so-sickly-it’s-a-work-of-unparalleled-genius Mars drink and they do those big pick’n’mix jelly strawberries and Neurofen and they are located near the Cornerhouse so you can buy some sweeties to take in with you when you go to watch a Hungarian film about an abortionist who has an affair with a ballerina. Euronews is bad because they don’t do the reduced rate student copies of The Times, The Guardian and The Telegraph and because they only have a very small selection of crisps which doesn’t include wheat crunchies and also because the shop is very small and if more than three people try to go in at one time they probably won’t fit. In summary, Euronews is a shop of contrasts. Thank you.

Euronews is a tiny little newsagents on Oxford Road that is dead useful because it’s near both the Manchester universities, town and Oxford Road station. I guess that’s why it’s had so many reviews on this here Unilocal thing, it’s a really usefully located newsagents. I come in here to get the odd can of coke or packet of chewing gum, and I’ve always found the guy serving inside to be so friendly. Buying some gum is so simple, but it makes everyone’s day a bit better if people like this guy are really pleasant when serving you.

What’s interesting about this place is how it proves that newsagents are almost always a big waste of space, in the most literal sense of the word. They have taken the very essence of the newsagent, and fit it all into a small 2-foot square area, becoming a corner-shop purists dream, if such people exist. I’m not sure whether the shop is this small from necessity or whether they always planned to make a really tiny place, and spent ages picking the exact right spot for such an endeavour. Whatever the reason, it’s ironically hard to miss because of the location; the stretch of Oxford Road it is on is a thoroughfare for students, businessmen and women, and lots of tramps. Possibly the latter group don’t shop there, but two out of three ain’t bad.

A little blue box called Euronews. This tiny shop front has the cigarettes and news you need. They have a strong selection of magazines and papers. This place is perfect for when you need some material for your train journey up on oxford road station, directly above your head. They have practically anything you could read including CHIMP magazine a local paper telling you all about local acts mixed in with some local politics. Very in the know.

What Moti Mayra Express lacks in stock and value, this place has in spades. «But HOW, B?» I hear you cry«It is so TINY and has ‘Papa don’t preach’ and the bad-C-word graffiti’d on the side of it!» Shhhhh, calm down, dear. Euro News is a little shop of wonders. Barely big enough to hold two people, this shoebox is crammed from top to bottom with magazines, papers, sweeties and a jolly good selection of smokes. Every now and then, I heard rumoured, they have Vogue cigarettes, which is great for those who like looking classy as they puff away. The magazine selection here is excellent, I swear I once saw Japanese Elle here, though I might have been mistaken. The newspaper selection is also first rate. They do all the dailies and weekend papers, and no matter how late in the day, they’re usually well-stocked. The service is brill, too, once I was buying the paper, and I wanted some Fruitellas, but was 15p short. The nice man behind the counter waved his hand and said«15p is nothing, it’s the weekend!». What a nice man! So hurrah for Euro News, better than most massive newsies.
