A pleasant park for a sunny day. I came to Fog Lane Park when some mates invited me to play cricket(for the first time in my life). It was one of those rare sunny weekends in Manchester where everyone was out and the city was crowded. Having spent Saturday morning in city centre, I figured it’d be even more packed at the parks, seeing as how when the sun’s out most spaces of green are covered with blankets and barbecues. Shockingly, Fog Lane remained fairly empty — seems most people stick closer to the centre of town or at Platt Fields. A fairly large park, this place has a bit for everyone looking to do something outdoorsy. There are a handful of tennis courts and a basketball court(broken backboards, but meh), a little skateboarding area, playground equipment for the kiddos, a bocce ball field, a huge open field for assorted sport, and several winding pathways leading through scenic regions of various flora if you’re just looking for a stroll. That being said, that’s only what I’ve seen, and I doubt I even saw half of this place. It’s huge! Getting there from city centre is fairly easy — just take the magic bus down and walk a few streets over to get to the park. The surrounding neighbourhoods look nice, too — feels like a very family friendly sort of place.

This park is mainly for those of the football or rugby fraternity with a large expanse of ground with about 18 football pitches in it covering a good many acres of Manchester land. It is also one of the better places to go for a run or a stroll around with its green surroundings and peacefulness even if right next to Princess Road.

Nearer to Withington than Didsbury, Fog Lane Park is one of your options when organising a kick around with your mates. Its got plenty of space to set up pitch, and its less busy than Ladybarn Park and Platt Fields, where you may not find space. If you’re a non-football, you must be mad, but you can distract yourself from your own madness by browsing the large section of the park dedicated to wild flowers. These are boring, but that’s because they’re flowers. Its also got some watery things that are pondy but pond does seem to be the right word for them so I’ll stick to watery things. Nice trees too but none are quite the right distance apart for goal posts.

Crap but true fact — I had my second ever snog in Fog Lane Park at the tender age of thirteen. Awwww, I know right? So whilst this little patch of South Mancunian greenery will never win any awards, it still holds a rather sweet little spot in my heart. Whilst I believe its Pets Corner bit the dust a long time ago, it still has a lovely little duck pond(which is great to take your kids to for a cheap day out) where you can sit and watch the local wildlife go mental over pieces of bread. I also quite like wandering through its shady tree lined vistas on Autumn days whilst taking a leisurely stroll over to Didsbury village.
