The restaurant itself is impressive, a huge room(old cinema maybe?) with chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and everything covered in cow hide. We were sat down in the main area and shown the menus, and prior to ordering the waiter brought out a tray of raw steaks to explain what each was — I thought this was a bit unnecessary as I knew what I wanted anyway, but some people find this a nice touch. The steaks themselves were very good, although the rest of the food, starters, sides etc., was fairly average and I don’t think that there’s any particular genius going on in the kitchen. Quite an expensive meal really and we left feeling a little bit disappointed after the initial impression.

Service is excellent but the food is way below par. My £50 filet was not only chewy and tough, but there was only part of a seer on one side, and none on the other. These are frozen steaks from Argentina. Not worth it. Empanadas are just ok.

Definitely one for the special occasion — this place made my anniversary perfect. The entire experience was spot on from start to finish. When entering you are greeted at the reception and shown to the bar for a drink before your meal. The décor is based around cow print, very classy with lots of black and silver. The service was impeccable — after we were shown to our table we were offered more drinks and given time to look at the menus. Shortly after one of the waiters offered to explain more about the different cuts of steak they were offering, and his knowledge was second to none. When the steak arrived it was cooked perfectly — the best steak I have ever tasted. The price of the steaks is really not to dissimilar to any other steak house in Manchester — it’s the starters and desserts which add up. But for a special occasion I would say that this is the perfect location, and the attention to detail more than makes up for it.

My favourite place for steak in Manchester at the moment! and not only because their steaks are delicious but for the entire experience! I’ve been there several times and have never been disapointed so far(touch wood), the steak are always yumy and cooked perfectly! the place can seem dear but steak price is similar as in other good steak places in manchester! starters and desserts are expensive but so nice that it’s hard to resist not to get any! good to know before you get a starter though, you get a generous plate with bread, dough balls and dips before your dinner that is quite filling! the atmosphere is also nice(would change the music though) and staff is very friendly and helpful! i like the fact that they come to present each piece of meat before you order and recommend how to cook these! so if you are a steak fan I would definitely recommend this place!

Gaucho was a short walk from the hotel. We were greeted and shown to a table in the bar area so we could have drinks first. I love that under one of the cocktail sections it mentions that they are offering«happiness, not drunkeness». It is from that section that I ordered, the Cha Cha Cha. Mr. Snarky doesn’t drink, so the bartender offered to make him a mocktail. I did take off a star as I noticed throughout the night that service was slow. We arrived shortly after 7:30 p.m. and closed the place down. Their closing time on Sunday night is 10:30 p.m. I was a bit surprised by the interior as it felt very much like a club than it did a restaurant. It took awhile for our drinks to arrive, I noticed that the bartender started on two of them and then disappeared for sometime. I really enjoyed mine and while it felt potent(Champagne, gin, and brandy), it sure didn’t taste of alcohol. We were taken through to the restaurant, which opens up and reveals some clues about what the building used to be… a Methodist Church, complete with the organ. However, the black and white theme continues throughout with lots of black and white cowhide. The chairs swivel, so be careful when you sit down… I nearly swiveled right off! I don’t know if this will make sense, but it was quite loud in the restaurant, but mostly from the melancholic, trippy music they were playing, not from the conversations from the different tables or the open kitchen. We were looking at the menu for some time, trying to decide what we wanted. I would say the wait was too long before a waiter came over and asked us if he would like us to explain the different cuts of meat as we had already decided what we were going to order. The explanation was great, but then of course we had to go back to the menu and re-think our orders. Three of us went with Rib-eyes ranging from rare to medium, while Mr. Snarky went with the Churrasco of Sirloin which is a steak that is butterflied then marinated. I really want to try their ceviche as a starter, however, I noticed that bread baskets were coming out to all of the tables, plus I had had a few free munchies in the lounge at the hotel so I didn’t want to fill up before my steak. Our steaks came with one side and a choice of sauce. All of us chose fat chips rather than the skinny chips or salad. I didn’t order a sauce because I am a bit of a snob when it comes to my steak, I want to taste the meat, not slather it in sauce. In hindsight, I could have used the sauce for my chips. Mr. Snarky asked the waiter if he could recommend a sauce for his steak, but the waiter said that he didn’t need one since the meat is marinated. As predicted, a bowl of various breads was brought to the table, along with coarse salt, pepper, and an oil with spices. There is a light roll with cheese(similar to the ones at Brazilian restaurants), a grilled piece of tortilla, and a darker bread as well as some butter. I quite liked the grilled tortilla, but the cheese roll was the star. It was gooey on the inside with a nice crusty outside and had a slightly sweet flavor. Our steaks began to appear, some served on plates set into wood boards, while some were just served straight on a wood board. By the time the bowls of chips appeared, there really wasn’t any room on the table. The laughing and jokes had stopped as we dived into our steaks. This must be one of the most tender steaks I have had. No need for a steak knife! No sounds of people sawing through leather. My steak was delicious and everything I had hoped for, even Mr. Snarky enjoyed it despite being cooked to Medium. I had a few bites of his Churrasco and it was delicious. I need the recipe for their marinade. The fat chips were really more like roasties, but that was fine as I used them to soak up the juices that had escaped from my steak. We decided to have dessert. It was the Dulce de Leche Cheesecake for Mr. Snarky and I. No sharing. And the dessert sampler for his friends. I did mention that I had hoped the Dulce de Leche Cheesecake would be as my favourite version from another restaurant. It certainly looked lovely on the plate and I loved that there was a dollop of Dulce de Leche on the plate, but it didn’t quite beat my favourite version. It is creamy and there is a lovely nuttiness about it, but it was lacking in a bit of sweetness which made it taste a bit bitter. The dessert sampler looked lovely with a bit of the cheesecake, Passion Fruit Tart, and Chocolate and Raspberries. Honestly, beef is what they are known for, so maybe give dessert a miss. As a few other reviews mentioned, it took ages to get our bill, mostly because a lot of the staff had seemed to disappear. Eventually we got the attention of a staff member, but we were the last table out… and it was closing time. I would love to give them five stars just for the beef alone, but the drawn out service kind of killed that excitement and energy.

I was invited here for the opening of the new cocktail bar. As soon as we walked through the door we were handed a glass champagne — an excellent start! The décor is very modern but is quite dimly lit — nice for a romantic drink. The drinks were constantly been topped up. I don’t think my glass ever reached emptiness. We were served canapes throughout the evening. They were all excellent but my favourite was the little burgers. Although the food and drink were all great I feel the place was missing something, a little bit of an introduction or speech from the management maybe would’ve gone down well… I will, however, give it another try in a few weeks when they hopefully have got settled in.

I have never been in hear but always wanted to as it looked lovely. Me and my partner got two free tickets to the launch of the new bar. When walked in all I can say is wow it’s amazing. It’s really luxurious quite dark with lots of cow print, chrome and glass. The restaurant is quite bright but still really cosy still carrying the team if the bar through with the cow print and glass. The staff was fantastic they were so friendly and made you feel really welcome. The drinks and food was flowing all night, you could have whatever you wanted from the bar the champagne was really lovely they were serving my favourite drink though was the gin and gingerbeer they serve fentimens gingerbeer which is one of my favourits. The food was great too i loved the canapés and the mini burgers. Overall it was a fantastic evening and I will definitely be returning to the bar as I loved the atmosphere and the feel of the place, I also want to try the resturants

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, extensive wine list and dam good cow… As soon as you step foot in the restuarant all u can smell is chargrilling steaks… Vegetarians beware, between the smells, meat boards and cow hide all over the walls and furniture, theres no escaping the meat fest going on here! I Loved how they take out a board full of meat and explain the different cuts! I went for a ribeye– perfectly cooked and great flavour! Also had a seabass ceviche in coconut and lemongrass to start which was delicious! Un beknown to us we also got served a free bread board with dipping oils and chimichurri sauce! Yum! To finish it off we had a pear and rosemary tart to share which was a perect end to the meal! Grill on the alley steak still beats this one for me, but for the overall experience Gaucho is the winner!

Good atmosphere, good service although a little formal. Food is amazing but very pricey. If you’re looking for somewhere and don’t mind splashing out then this is a great place to try. If you want to eat on budget then don’t bother, price ranges from reasonable to well over priced. The food quality is definitely exceptional however.

Unique décor, great steaks. Happening scene. Looks like a dance club. Apparently a former church. Highly recommend the Argentinian style dishes. Back room behind the former sanctuary is good for private dinner parties. Good mojitos.

As a long time Gaucho visitor and fan my recent visit to Manchester was a combination of the usual excellence I’d come to expect from a food and table service point of view, and unexpectedly poor service from the bar and reception/door staff. One of the reasons that I go back to Gaucho over and over again is the food and wine. The other is consistency, knowing that no matter if you go to Gaucho Leeds, Gaucho Charlotte Street or Gaucho O2 the fantastic service and food is of the same excellent consistency. And that’s why my recent visit to Manchester was so disappointing, because that service level wasn’t there — the reception and door staff seemed uninterested, initially very curtly pushing us towards the reception desk, then having no tables for people to sit at but also being unable to find a way to get drinks to us,(so we were sent to Vodka Revolution) — I can’t help but think Gaucho and VR aren’t the same experience — and then once we’d returned from VR, the receptionist simply walked off half way through a conversation(because it seemed like her shift was over maybe?)… Once we made it through to the restaurant everything was great as usual, but the whole exercise of getting there was terrible — and totally not in line with everything that I’ve come to expect from Gaucho.

The first thing that strikes you is the black-and-white interior, which works rather well to create an interesting atmosphere. The service is quite attentive, unfortunately with a job to hype the beef a bit more than I find necessary. There are several interesting-looking starters, we picked a selection of ceviche, a choice we were happy with. As an occasional contrarian at a highly carnivorous restaurant, I picked a fish dish(it’s been a little while, but I believe it was monkfish), which was really good. The wine list is extremely focused on Argentina, and why not, the restaurant features some really nice wines from a few makers, and we were very pleased with what we got. It is a bit nerdy to specify the altitude of the vineyards for each wine, but why not, it certainly appeals to data-hungry people like me. In all, this place is worth a visit when you are looking for protein and South American wines, and you should be now and then!

Fantastic food, wine, atmosphere and staff. Top notch place! Tried the 300g lomo fillet with peppercorn and bernaise sauce and applecrumbles with vanilla custard for dessert. Will absolutely come back when I’m in town. The charming local waiter made all of us four lads fall in love

I’ve always loved this place. Especially when I have a meat craving. Deco and atmosphere? Cowboy with a contemporary twist. Meaning u’ll see cow hides and all, but mixed with the black and glass it becomes a little less cowboy salon and more cocktail bar and restaurant. No point me advising what to eat here. If you’re looking at Gaucho Grill, it because of the steaks. Want a quick 2 minute lesson on the different types of cut for steak and how it impacts the taste and texture of your meat? That’s the waiter’s first job. And what else is Argentina famous for? Wine of course. Go for their Malbec. It goes well with the steak(even if you’re not a red wine drinker). As a side, I MUST recommend the humitas. It’s a corn purée. And it is absolutely fantastic. If I could, if go in and eat only that!!!

If you like steak, you have to come here! The beef is all from Argentina — where they eat a lot of beef! If your a vegetarian, maybe you want to avoid it — since you sit on cowhide! When you sit down at your table, they bring to the table a «meat board». This is all the different cuts of steak — rib eye, sirlion, fillet etc. They explain the different things about each — flavour, marbling and how they recommend each should be cooked. For example, fillet is more about the tenderness but rib eye — with the marbling — has more flavour. We both ended up going for the rib eye which is my favourite. Even then there was more choice. For example, with the rib eye you can get e.g. MedllLions or e.g. Bife De Ancho — which is the top of the rib eye. Waitresses said this one had more marbling so went for that one. Fat equals flavour! The steak was really good. One of the best. I think the best I have had was in Neighbourhood(the first time, another time was not quite as good — but still very good). Flavour was great, maybe a touch too salty(but admittedly, I quite often think things are salty) and although very tender, in Neighbourhood it was like cutting through butter. The sides we ordered were nice. Nice restaurant, lovely food and good service. Can’t ask for more!

Gaucho is the last word in Steak. I have put a lot of steak in my face over the years, I potentially am part Cow the amount I’ve consumed… which would make this cannabilism, oh god I’m a Zombie, wait wait sorry I’m getting off track. Argentinian steak is a flavour sensation that must be experienced, They bring you a butchers board with all the cuts they do on it for you to pick, but not to pick blindly oh no they will ask how you like your steak cooked and based on this which cut is best for you. Then they’ll recommend what wine would best go with your steak, obviously you can pick whatever wine you want if you have a favourite but I’m a amateur flavourist(yeah I just made that title up) and thoroughly enjoy putting flavours together maximise each of them(if you ever come with me for a beer there’s a flavour art to the order you drink them for example) If all this helpful knowledge being put into your ears wasn’t enough, the next clue the steak was something special was… No steak knives. Don’t get me wrong I love my pub grub and getting a steak in a pub is a great thing, but if they don’t give you a valaryan steel knife freshly sharpened on unicorn horns you ain’t cutting no pub meat. Gaucho steaks not so, they virtually part before you blunt as a butter knife, knife slicing through as though it were water. Steak flavours, amazing, sides very nice, infact they were probably great but the steak was so good they were very much resigned to being sides. I have the Cabbage, Spinach, and Chorizo with Roast Sweet Potatoe. Desert, I don’t often do desert but I couldn’t resist. One of my work colleagues we split the deserts because we couldn’t decide, the Sticky toffee pudding was, alright just alright I ‘think’ it’s almost something that is done better justice by not being too fancy. The other desert though in the words of George ‘Oh My!’ Don Pedro is icecream whipped with Rum or Whiskey, we opted for rum, oh my my my my my, what a tasty treat to end on. Price wise, yes Gaucho is not cheap, but the moment that steak goes in your mouth you realise why, it’s not something you could do every week, or every month, or even every few months, but I would say that’s a great thing in keeping Gaucho that special place you go to for celebration.

Was here last week with a customer — his choice, he is the type that puts being seen in a restaurant before quality or value. It probably wouldnt have been my choice, I have been to the one in Canary Wharf before and dont usually choose chain places anyhow, But here we are, service was fine, nice greeting and shown to the lounge for a drink first. He chose a bottle of late bottle wine — I thought I can see how this night is going. Even on expenses I hate paying out £40 quid for wine — I have a bit of an old fashioned rule that I never spend on exs what I wouldnt consider to be good value if I was paying myself. Now if you are on a special night out and have blagged a great table at an exclusive place and you want your missus to remember just why it was she took a chance on you all those years ago then fine, you pay that bit extra. If its a slow week night and you wish you were somewhere else then £40 quid, do me a favour. Onto the food — I do love a great steak and have been lucky enough to eat at some first class steakhouses over the years. This place came up OK — not spectacular but OK. And thats the reason for the average 3 star review. If steaks are your star turn then they should be great, rush back, did you hear about, cant believe it steaks. They are not — they are OK. Cooked well(medium) eye of the fillet — I think its called Lomo, it cost nearly £30.00 and then another £10.00 for salad and chips. £200 for two of us — essentially a couple of steak and chips and a few drinks. I wouldnt rush back, and Im sure there are better steak houses in Manchester and next time its my choice I will use Unilocal to find one.
