I’ve been going here for lunch about 2 years now. It’s not far from where I work. Food isn’t really that expensive & there is always somewhere to sit. When you queuing to be served the staff are always very friendly. They have hot and cold dishes(jacket potatoes, curries, chilli & chips) depending on which day you visit. The have the largest selection of sauces/dips I have ever seen to flavour your food. So you know you won’t miss on out some tomato ketchup with your chips ;) The layout reminds me of a posh youth hostel. Nice environment and lots of toys if you have children. Cool places, food customer service and good food not to expensive either. Give it a try :)

You would walk past it if you didn’t know if was there! This a good little lunch spot. I like the salads they come in a big blow and you can pick which toppings you like. There is a garden in the back that gets the sun at about lunch time. They do a number of hot dishes and always have jugs of water on the tables. It isn’t posh it’s like a canteen. The staff are always smiling.

The International Society is within easy reach from U of M &MMU’s campuses on Oxford Road. It’s eternally packed and difficult to find a seat in during normal eating hours, but it’s(usually) worth it. The menu does change day-to-day, but I was able to find something I liked most times I went in. I think I only walked out once or twice over the course of a year, and it was simply because I’d rather eat something I like that’s less expensive vs. something I don’t want or like and costs more. One time, they had a chicken curry that was to die for. The portions are massive, and they will give you a takeaway container if you don’t feel like having your stomach rupture.

Although I have heard from an Australian friend about all the great work they do taking international students out on interesting day trips my only real contact with the International Society has come in the form of its rather lovely cafeteria which is open to all. Serving a range of hot vegetarian and meat dishes(it nearly always seems to be veggie chilli and chicken curry when I’m there, although I do usually go on the same day) along with toasted Panini, cold sandwiches and a sort of DIY salad bowl thing(there is a flow chart — one from this box, two from this etc,. It’d be enough to put me off getting a salad, except that I never would anyway.) The food is excellent value with a heaped plate that’ll keep you going all day for under £5. They also sell the sort of biscuits your nan would always have in an old quality street tin –Tunnock’s Caramel Wafers, tea cakes etc., Allegedly more than four million Tunnock’s Caramel Wafers are made and sold each week. To whom? To your nan, that’s who.

International Society– Manchester University’s most proud society stands tall and white next to the Oxford Road Natwest branch, bang opposite the Student’s Union. It’s a great society to start your univeristy and also join it anytime in between or even when you’re out of it! They have great events, exciting meetings and most importantly it’s the people you meet here that make the best of this place. It attracts all kinds of interesting people and hence is the hot spot for making new friends or even just doing something exciting with your old ones. They organise very enjoyable trips at very reasonable costs, giving you the exposure to indulge in a completely different experience with people from abundant nationalities! I remember this weekend trip to Bath which was just £75 including everything! It was an amazing one and I got to know some real amazing friends from there! The café there is a nice little invite to chill and unwind. Amazing experience and enthralling memories for life!

The International Society is part of the University of Manchester. It’s a building for international students to meet, start groups and share interests and experiences. Also, its not closed to non-international students, and as they have a great café, its worth a visit for all. Situated across the road from the Students Union, the International Society is in some ways another version of the Union. Its similarly a place for students to meet and have a laugh. You can find out all international related things here, from learning languages to help with work, to where to go if you’re new to Manchester to advice about living in a foreign city. Being British, I find the most appealing aspect of the International Society to be its great café, which is probably the best place to get lunch out of all the university cafes and eateries. Baked potatoes of alarming size and excellent piles f fresh salad for a few quid are enough to keep me going back time and again. If you’re a University of Manchester student, make sure you check it out.
