La Olla is a very good Spanish restaurant in Sale. The place looks smart inside with lots of red and black décor. The menu is extensive and you can choose from tapas, paella, meat and fish dishes. I had the avocado and halloumi salad which was massive and very tasty. My seafood paella was also very good although not the best I’ve had. The service was friendly and efficient throughout. It’s great to see a good Spanish restaurant on Sale high street.

It’s very rare that I manage to get to eat in a recently opened restaurant. It was my sister who’d mentioned La Olla to me as she’d booked to eat there with friends at the end of April. So, when I’d arranged to meet up with an old workmate I decided to get in there before her and report back my findings :) Though the weather was atrocious that evening, the welcome we got when we arrived was warm and friendly. The restaurant was almost full which looked to be a good omen considering it was a Thursday(I’d advise booking in advance). There’s a fair amount of seating so it would be a good place for groups up to a maximum of 10 – 12. The menus are pretty comprehensive, in fact, we were somewhat bamboozled by all the options. If your group is four people or larger there are two ‘banquet’ options(£19.95 or £25 per person), which would give you a nice range of their offerings. We chose ‘Pan del dia’(a selection of house breads with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar) to start off with, which was really good, the tomato-infused bread was especially tasty. From the tapas menu we shared six dishes, ranging from the ubiquitous ‘Patatas bravas’(chopped potatoes with paprika, tobasco and chilli tomato sauce), ‘Albondigas’(Spanish meatballs in a rich tomato sauce) and ‘Tortilla espanola’(potato and onion omelette) to the lesser known ‘Espinacas con gabanzos’(sautéed spinach in garlic and onion with chickpeas) which was really, really good. Accompanied with a small glass of house Rioja and a diet coke this veritable feast came to just less than £40 which was fantastic value for money. Added to my small, but hopefully growing, list of local dining hot-spots!
