Got a very cool reception from the attendant. I’m not too familiar with the laundrette process, do I use the machine myself?, where do I get the powder from? Do I have to pay extra? Do I pay for the drier separately? Getting answers to these questions was like pulling teeth. Then after being told to come back in an hour, I was told that there was no time for drying. So I have soggy clothes in my hotel bathroom drying off. Working away from home is always a challenge, and places like this don’t make it any easier.

The staff was great, very helpful and it is relatively inexpensive. They are closed on Sunday for self-service washing so plan accordingly. Normal wash is £3 and extra large wash is £5. Drying is £1 for each 15 minutes. They have 3 computers you can use while you wait as well as books and magazines to read. Very comfortable sofas to sit on and relax as well. The earlier you get here the better. Seems like business picks up in the latter afternoon. Overall a great experience and my clothes got clean as expected!

When we first moved to Manchester and our flat didn’t even have a fridge, let alone a washing machine, this launderette came in handy. If you’ve got no chilled food, it’s at least nice to have clean clothes. Though the Launderette isn’t how it is in the films. You know, a melting pot of our city’s population, full of interesting characters and mysterious strangers. Actually, it’s just full of people like you and me getting their washing done. It’s amazing that it still exists, don’t most people generally have a washing machine nowadays? Aside from these questions, it’s just a launderette. Go, get your washing done. Get it dried. Go home.

This place always makes me hanker after the past when I pass it, and gives rise to memories when my sisters and I lived in Stoke and would spend an afternoon getting our laundry done, one of us sat reading… usually at least one of us popping to the record shop next door and generally not at all feeling the domestic drudgery getting us down… it was just part of life! While our humble launderette was basic by any means… this launderette in the Northern Quarter housing some pretty fancy technology, and gives the imagination a idea of what Darth Vader’s laundry room would look like. Inside this laundrette is also an Internet café… which looking back on my memories, actually makes perfect sense. I guess that are local residents must be benefiting from this mini revolution(and by that I dont mean a unit of spin cycle) At £1 for 30 minutes of internet service… it’s not only the thrifty traveller who visits the laundrette to Tweet or update their Facebook status!
