Visited this barbers yesterday for my first haircut since moving to Manchester; I wasn’t disappointed. You don’t need an appointment which I have found to be a rarity amongst barbers around here, the atmosphere is very relaxed and all the guys are very friendly. At £22 it’s not the cheapest around, but with the amount of care the guy took in cutting my hair paired with the end result, I would have paid more; this will definitely be my go to place for a haircut now.

The best barbershop I’ve used to date, this place is chilled out and very ‘Northern Quarter’ in style and approach. The guys wielding the scissors are friendly and relaxed, but very attentive and detail-oriented. The cut is pricey for a barbers at £20, but they work hard for your cash, and I was more than happy with the service I got for that price. Booking in advance is well worth doing, as you can expect to wait an hour or more if you show up unannounced, but I got the impression that killing time here waiting for a chair wouldn’t be all that much of a hardship anyway. The banter is good, there’s TV and newspapers to keep you occupied, and regular rounds of coffee were coming out for punters and barbers alike. All in all, a fantastic find, and I’ll definitely be a regular.

One of my biggest local business regrets about all my time in Manchester was not discovering Maclure’s much, much sooner. I’d paid visits to a number of cheaper barbers closeby in the Northern Quarter and always left with my hair in dismal shape. I probably couldn’t have done much worse had I gone to Boots, picked up a hair trimmer, and done it myself. But the folks working at Maclure sure know what they’re doing and are able to handle whatever hairstyle you want to throw at them. It’s a tiny hip space, this establishment, and you can be waiting a while since each barber will take their time on a customer’s head — but they’ve got magazines, the radio on, and sometimes someone going on a coffee run in case you need a pick me up. Before I had my first cut here, I was attentively looking at what each barber was doing and why it was taking so long to turn a seat over — turns out that so much attention is paid to scissor cuts here, versus most everywhere else where electric trimmers do the vast majority of the work. And the results from my own haircuts? Easily some of the best I’ve ever had. They paid close attention hearing out what I was looking for and gave me exactly what I wanted. Actually, probably even better than I was expecting. So it’s a testament to these guys and their skill. Is 20 quid a lot for a haircut? Of course it is. Especially when you compare it to the £5−10 prices elsewhere in the neighborhood. But if your scalp, full of cowlicks, gets butchered regularly by other barbers, and if you’re looking to keep some style on your head, then these guys are a godsend. Sometime you just don’t have 4 – 8 weeks to wait out a «mistake.» 5 Stars. No complaints, and worth the money.
