I dined here Wednesday evening with my boyfriend after having read some positive reviews online. We tried to call to reserve the night before, but didn’t manage to get through. We ended up reserving online and the owner of the restaurant emailed to let us know the reservation was confirmed. I really appreciated this little personal touch. The location is lovely even from the outside. I can’t wait until it gets a bit warmer to take advantage of the outdoor seating area! The inside is very open with a quirky, modern décor — there was a movie being projected on one of the walls. The service was very friendly and attentive throughout the night from drinks to dessert. We started with drinks and the pitta bread with roast garlic and lemon hummus off the«nibbles» menu. The drinks list is quite extensive with lots of choices of beer(bottled and on tap), wine, cocktails, and spirits. For mains, we decided on the mojito chicken(a signature dish I believe) and a beet and pistachio risotto. Both dishes were well presented — though you couldn’t tell from the picture of the mojito chicken plate that my boyfriend attacked as soon as it hit the table! Both dishes were excellent with a good balance of original flavors. I especially appreciated the risotto for the originality of the beet and pisatachio pairing! We vowed not to take a starter to save enough room for dessert(even though the starters looked really good) and it was a good thing we did because the portions are generous! For dessert we chose the millionaire’s chocolate pot(salted caramel, biscuit & chocolate ganache served with ice cream, and an edible flower) and cheesecake with pistachio crust served with a lime sorbet. The chocolate pot was presented in a flowerpot with what looks like a sprig of microcress adding a touch of whimsy. Both desserts were fantastic! The only downside was that I was basically too full to move afterwards. The prices are quite reasonable though we had a Taste Card which provided a 50% discount on our food order. In total we only paid £40(half of which was drinks) — an extremely good value given the quality of the food for which the full price is more than reasonable. In sum, our experience at Mish Mash was very good and we will definitely be visiting again soon to explore more of the menu.

I went to Mish Mash with a group if friends and loved it. We went on a Friday night and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. The place seemed a lot bigger than it formally was when it was an Indian restaurant and they had made great use of the space. The décor is quirky and homely. I liked the fact they had a projector on the back wall showing old black and white films. The service was also very attentive and pleasant. Now onto the food. I ordered the mushrooms and poached egg on sour dough which tasted really good. The egg was poached to perfection. For main I had the butternut squash and pine nut crumble which was a tasty and unusual dish. The sauce was creamy and the crumble was packed with veggie. Healthy comfort food at its best. I would recommend Mish Mash if you fancy a relaxed night with friends or a romantic evening.

If you like your roast beef reddy pink then this is the place for you! I came here after my housemate saying he’d been to a new restaurant that had undercooked his roast beef. He likes his well done and is too British to complain unfortunately. I enjoyed the beef and relished the fact it wasn’t overcooked for once. Although there was too much fat on it, which hadn’t melted into the flavour as it was a rare cook. The Sunday roast is served with Yorkshire pudding and roasties(of course), mashed potato, parsnip, carrot, cauliflower cheese and plenty of gravy. My(other) housemate and I enjoyed it all! We somehow found room for pudding. I was a bit disappointed with my sticky toffee pudding as the sponge was on the dry side. The toffee sauce and ice-cream were nice but I recently had 2 excellent sticky toffee puddings on holiday in Scotland and this really didn’t compare. My housemate got chocolate and cherry in a pot. This came in a flower pot with crumbly chocolate ‘earth’ on top and incredibly dense chocolate ganache with fresh cherries in it underneath. Full marks for presentation and size of portion. I’m not sure the idea totally worked, but it was chocolate so it tasted good regardless. It seems the name Mish Mash comes from their approach to cooking, which is «one part British with a twist, one part international and one part quirky» and playful according to their website. There’s outdoor seating looking onto the ever popular Beech Road but it was a bit too chilly the day we went. Inside it’s a very large space with lots of large mirrors, a couple of large pieces of graffiti art and some authentic looking stable doors. Definitely living up to the Mish Mash name but it’s quite attractive. Popular with the locals too, the chichen roast had sold out when we left around 3pm. Lots of extended families on the Sunday afternoon. I’d come back for the roast.

Came in for a drink on a Friday night — used to be a curry house but recently changed house. They’ve done a nice job with the place, modernised it a bit and put some cool branding on the brickwork, with a lovely outdoor seating area. The staff were really friendly and there was a good selection of wine, craft beer and cocktails. A little on the pricey side for drinks(£7 for a large glass of wine!) but I guess that’s beech road. The food being served looked good but nothing special — burgers etc — although I suppose you can’t knock it til you’ve tried it!
