We were craving some dim sum, so away to New Hong Kong we went. And we came even faster when we saw the half-price dim sum deal! They sure know how to advertise to students! There were a good number of other students in the restaurants, as well as people who were on their lunch breaks. The restaurant is quite big, and the staff quite attentive. Good start. The dim sum itself was just alright. Nothing really stood out to us. We had the usual: har gow, siu mai, prawn wrapped in rice noodle. Actually I really enjoyed the spareribs & rice dish, the presentation was lovely and it tasted even better! Not a bad place for a lunchtime dim sum stop.

Now now, what was wrong with the old Hong Kong? Oh right… that’s it, you can’t fit the old Hong Kong into a small restaurant. So this one’s perfect. Well, let’s not jump to any conclusions, I’ve not reviewed it yet! It’s not exactly perfect. It’s the very definition of A-OK, with some perks but just a few ‘meh’ features that drag it down to even stevens. The free Chinese tea with your meal is a great bonus, especially considering I’ll glug the stuff and save on drinks. You can grab half price dim sum in the afternoons too which certainly goes a long way to filling a gap and overall the value for money is superb. The service is fine and the quality of the food might not be the best in Chinatown, but if you’re in the market for a cheap eat this could just be the place.

Was okay but not great. Went here as a group of 22 but were all sat around a table that was simply too small even though the place was nearly empty. Set menu was okay but probably the worst ribs I’ve had in China Town Manchester.

I have no idea what this restaurant is like in the evenings, I’ve only come here in the afternoons for their half-price dim sum offer. It’s a great way to entice passers by and students to come in during the afternoon lull and it’s a great way for us to try out more dishes than we usually would. The restaurant itself is one of the biggest in China Town. The dim sum list is huge too and amongst my favourites are Satay Gunchintou, Char Sui Bun, Turnip Cake and Mini Ribs with rice. I always spend less than £15 in here for great food and fast service. I should try coming here in the evening some time soon…
