I swear that a few years ago Office was absolutely the place to go and get your latest new pair of shoes or trainers. However, Schuh on Market Street seems to be miles ahead of Office both in terms of choice of stock and general excitingness(not a word, typed it, felt good about it, going to leave it). They’ve got good ranges of Converse, Dunlops, and Nike’s. There’s some nice smarter shoes too. The shop is spacious and well laid-out, with a few relaxed staff wondering about. I think it’s just that Schuh is such an exciting, amazing emporium of shoes that nothing seems as good as comparison. And as a main competitor, Office deserves to be compared to Schuh. It’s not as good.

Now that Office have swanky outlets in both of Manchester’s shopping meccas — Arndale Centre and Trafford Centre — the original store-front in St. Anne’s Square seems to have been made into a permanent Sale shop where the company sell discontinued and out of season stock. If you’re after a pair of sandals in mid winter or a pair of heels that were popular two years ago, you might be in luck. And for a good price too. If you’re looking for inspiration however, you’d be better off sitting down with a pen and a piece of paper and drawing your ideal shoes. To quote cops everywhere: ‘There’s nothing to see here, folks!’
