Bit of an update, they no longer do additional roast potatoes /veg. It was ok value for £6.90 — bit did feel like we’d got the end of the veg, at around 2 on a Sunday. They still do extra gravy, but mine certainly didn’t need it. It remains to have football — though it was inoffensive enough volume. Chilled enough. Did have one non-Green King pint, and it was ok. An ok budget choice for food, but there’s a few in the area.

Ah the Old House at Home, the pub Burton Road forgot. This isnt the bar on Burton Road where you can expect the usual Didsbury crowd to frequent, this is the pub for the older folk, the locals who are more Withington than your stereotypical W. Didsbury types. That said, theres nothing wrong with a pub giving that feel of a local pub, and at times this isn’t a bad place to go. The problem is, it can also attract some undesirables at times too. The pro’s of the pub are, its big, its very big indeed. It did used to have a good pub quiz but I cant confirm whether this is still on or not. It has plenty of TV’s and shows the football matches, something that few pubs around Burton Road offers, and it also has a large beer garden. For fans of lager it also offers good value, sadly you cant expect too much choice if you are into craft beer, fine ales etc. They do offer Sunday Lunch but its very much your usual pub fare. With the amount of choice on offer in the area it’d be difficult to see why you’d have Sunday Lunch here, although if you fancy a burger & chips whilst the football is on then it is quite handy. Overall, unless you want to watch the football or a quick afternoon drink then its ok, but its not where youre going to spend your Friday/Saturday night

I am one of those winey pathetic girls who constantly moans that i am cold… ah, except for when I venture down to my local, The House At Home! It is a literal sauner. You think im exaggerating? Its not un-sensible to, in the depth of winter leave your house wearing a polo-neck jumper. But apparently so when the House At Home is on the cards. After excessive sweating I had to end up leaving the pub early before I had to leave via a stretcher. Despite its clearly broken heating facilities, this place is half decent. Just your typical local pub. Old tudor style building, with low celings(which probably dont help with the heat issues) comfy seating, decent priced booze and grub, pool table, IT box, and beer garden. Once it has sorted its heating issues out, not a bad place to go to watch the match with a pint, or grab a sunday dinner. Just don’t go expecting anything gourmet, and be sure to wack out the shorts and t-shirts. And the sunglasses, why the hell not. Oh and don’t bother if you are very tall.
