Pure used to be a huge club in the heart of the Printworks that could hold nearly 2000 people in it’s mostly underground club. It was also renowned as being one of superclubs of the North. However, personally, you got a feel that this definitely wasn’t the place to be as soon as you walked through the door and had to enter through a number of metal detectors and get frisked on your way in. The variety of music that used to be available was rather large due to the large number of areas for a dance. Yet the main area, after heading down about 60 flights of stairs, had a dingy aura about it with bad remixes of even worse chart songs blaring out of tinny-sounding speakers with the bass completely destroying any actual noise coming out of them. Was normally filled with your pretty women who were up for a good night of snogging/flaunting and teasing along with your chino-wearing guys who thought they could pull anything. Definitely not a night I would go out unless forced out with a large group. Much better clubs closer to the University and cheaper.

First things first — unless you’re under the age of 22, achingly pretty and most definitely up for a snog then Pure is not the place for you. This gargantuan super club is among the most typically mainstream of venues in the whole of Manchester, making its location in the Printworks absolutely ideal. Once you know what the Printworks is like on a Saturday night, the description of Pure all clicks into place. Playing a variety of mainstream music from pop classics to radio-approved dance music across its many rooms, there’s nothing unusual or shocking about this night out. If that’s what you’re after, you’ll love it. If that’s not, you’ll be biting your fist in rage all night. The club itself is absolutely, with no exaggeration, massive. Snaking hallways between the many club rooms can be a bit dizzying, so you’d do well to keep close to your mates at all times in case you get lost(and can’t ring each other underground). The drinks in here a pretty pricey, though there’s always an offer on something that will get you drunk(but I wouldn’t expect it to treat you to well the morning after). As well as that, smokers might go a bit nuts thanks to having to walk for ages all the way upstairs and outside to have a cig. All that said, this just wasn’t my kind of evening — but if you’re after an unashamedly, unpretentiously mainstream night in the city centre, you can’t go wrong with this jam-packed superclub.

Hier geht man hin!

Pure… in my fresher’s week, I went there with my new flat mates. Happy times! I like it. I mean, it’s definitely not the best club in Manchester, but I liked it. They have different room for different people. Now, my friends were into R&B and stuff. I like my electronic music, so I went downstairs in the ‘big room’. I was drunk at that point, but I still remember a dude, trying to pull every single one of us during the night. In the same night full of adventures, one of my friends came to us, saying that we can go in the VIP room, to have some free alcohol. Go for it. It was awesome. Watching at other people dancing, with a bottle of champagne in our hands. It was a good time, and actually, I still have lots of photos with us from that night. It’s nice to remember this things. And back to the club, it’s pretty big as I was saying. You can have a great time in there. The drinks are cheap. For students really. And let’s not forget the night that attracts so many people ‘aqua pop’. Yeah, I’ll probably go there again, at least to remember the fun times we had.

Pure is a superclub. For most people this means that it is the opposite of super. It means its a mainstream music and dancing venue populated by people interested in mainstream music. However, i would like to point out at this stage that you are not being cool just by not liking mainstream music, so this is not a criticism. Pure is mainly interested in r ‘n’ b, with the local Djs playing out classic tunes night in night out. They link up with Manchester radio station Galaxy, which shares these interests. If this is your thing you’ll have a great time here. its packed most weekend nights and there are many large rooms and plenty of spaces to drink, sit and dance. If you don’t like this kind of music you will hate it. So don’t go there. My advice would be to go somewhere that plays the kind of music that you like. However, if you’re just up for a laugh, keep your eye on their website. I went there for a catchphrase night with the real Roy Walker! I even met him and got a signed photo which I gave to my grandma. That is actually completely true! Banter.

Everyone seems to love Pure as a club. ‘Pure is amazing… Pure just plays the best music… etc etc’. Then I guess I’m on a very different page compared to many, because even after being here number of times, I still don’t see the ‘wow’ factor in it! I mean it is alright, but for me it has only earned the ‘ok-ish’ tag. They host many nights and the one I like out of all would be the Ministry of Sound nights on friday’s at times. That’s when I think I would say the music is worth it! Another time I really had a blast was when they used to have the ‘Roller Disco’ nights. That was rad! Being in skates whilst you’re drunk can be more fun than accidents! It was crazy seeing drunk people trying to keep balance and keeping still while they were on a moving spree! Other than that, Pure is just a huge space with 3 different rooms, but yet cannot seem to play some worthwhile music! I wish they would play one but great collection! It used to be much better before, but now with new clubs like entourage and Lakota, it seems to be losing its clientele. It needs to spruce up and get some uplifting nights going!

As super clubs go, Pure is fairly high up on my list. Located deep beneath the Printworks complex in central Manchester, Pure has a great location, great music and a pretty great price. I first went to Pure when they hosted a touring Ministry of Sound event, and was not expecting the club to be as big and varied as it was. The club has several different rooms within it, each playing separate styles of music, and each with a separate full bar offering drinks on special offers and at cut prices. On top of that, on the second level, there is a full fast food joint, which offers chips, burgers and the like, well into the night. Fast food and clubbing? Perfect. Pure also hosts a variety of special event nights, including roller discos, although I would be somewhat concerned about trying to get down to the main dance floor on roller skates. Pure suffers from the Curse of the Printworks — too many stairs. Good luck trying to get around if you are completely drunk — it may take you some time! On the whole, Pure is a great night out — fun, modern and with something to keep even the biggest party pooper interested. I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to really dance the night away!

You know by now I’m not a Printworks person, and Pure hasn’t convinced me any further. Now, I don’t want to get too political here. But when David Cameron, airbrushed excuse for a politician David Cameron invites you to Pure to ‘party with the Tories’ you know that Pure just ain’t cutting the mustard. Well, it might be for the likes of Young Tory from Harry Enfield and Friends. I have friends who like expensive places, and these friends choose to come here. So if you like to flash your cash and can cope with decibel smashing RnB, by all means, give Pure a go. I’m providing it with the benefit of the doubt simply because I’ve found out that there’s a roller disco. Thank you Rob — this is exactly what Unilocal is for!

If there’s one thing Pure ain’t, it’s pure. Epitomising the Printworks’ vodka-soaked debauchery and obsession with crappy R&B, Pure is one of the worst places on Earth, in my opinion. I have, unfortunately, been to Pure three times in my life. And that’s about a hundred times too many. My most memorable trip to Pure involved a pair of heels a size too small(and I don’t even like wearing heels in the correct size) and a disappointing encounter with Pat Sharpe of Funhouse, er, fame. The music was dreadful, the people were dreadful, the drinks were overpriced and, yep, dreadful. The high points of that night included going to the loo and seeing a girl be sick down herself, and leaving. My disappointing encounter with Pat Sharpe went thusly: he was doing an appearance, which was excruciating. Then on the dance floor, I saw him walking past. I used to love Funhouse(and wrote copious letters asking if I could be on) so understandably I was excited. I reached out to tap his shoulder, and was met with a leering«heyyyyy!» from a very sweaty, very short, quite whiffy Pat Sharpe. Never meet your heroes, they always say. And they’re right. I was gutted. Disappointing encounters with childhood idols aside, Pure is just pure rubbish. The only plus point about this place is… nope…can’t think of any. If you like cheap drinks sold expensive, leery old blokes and personal appearances from the likes of Olly off of X Factor and Sisqo, then dive right in. If not, avoid this dive like the plague.

Pure is a another mega club occupying the same building as tiger tiger. It’s multiple floors down the stairs lead through layer after layer of dance floors with different themes, when you finally reach the bottom you hit the biggest dance floor with a cloak room in the far corner. Part of it is raised and the music is loud, definition of loud loud. Big screens and DJs play at pure and one of the best nights in Manchester can be found at the roller disco evenings. Basically you get set up with a pair of skates and proceed to get diabolically drunk, this is hilarious as you spend most of your night on your arse or stood up watching other people on their arse. I’ve been into the VIP section before(it’s not hard to get in) it’s very alright, nothing special. Go to pure if the roller disco is on, if not once again avoid like its death incarnate.

A company I used to work for decided to go to Pure for their Christmas party, and it was like trying to celebrate the Festive season in the seventh circle of hell. The downstairs room had all the ambience of a disused bus shelter, the food was inedible, and I had to take out a small mortgage to afford a glass of wine. Ok, so maybe I’m biased because I had a bad experience there. But quite frankly, I expected more from this self styled«super club». I’ve heard rumours that avant garde electronic act Autechre are thinking of putting on a gig there, and I’m sure its abatoir-esque atmosphere would suit their jaw grindingly difficult music perfectly. But as for me, I remain sceptical. Quite frankly, I’ve had more fun rearranging my bellybutton fluff collection than I had at Pure. Avoid.

It looks terrible. The décor is awful. The drinks are over-priced. The security mind-bogglingly thorough. But I can’t bring myself to hate Pure, because of one reason: the Roller Disco. You see, I don’t even need to be drinking to enjoy myself here. It’s absolute carnage. Whoever had the bright idea of getting people drunk, and then getting them to co-ordinate themselves sufficiently on eight wheels to navigate at high speed amongst other equally drunken idiots is an unsung hero. About every five seconds some six-foot tall rugby player will scythe a petite blond to the ground, at which point the ‘Marshals’ will sweep in on their blades to cordon off the area so she can be resuscitated/bagged-and-moved. Never mind the fact that four guys on roller-blades are not going to be able to hold back a crowd of fast-moving bodies should they veer towards the poor woman. I think last time I was there someone broke their leg. It doesn’t help either that the DJ constantly makes sudden demands like ‘Everyone change direction’, causing a mass pile-up as about fifty people all try and reverse their now considerable momentum on the spot. I bloody love it.

You’ve got to love Pure for what it does. It provides a place for all the tacky hen/stag parties to go to every weekend. It gets them out of the normal clubs and all under one roof to cause trouble there. They embrace this and cater especially for them. Nutters. It’s not my type of place but I have to admit I was impressed with how on earth they managed to pull off the X-Factor event they’ve had this year. They managed to score the X-Factor afterparty every Saturday, with the X-Factor finalist who had been booted off the week before, performing live. That’s a big gig for any club so why Pure?! I’ve no idea how popular it’s been but I do know they’ve had a few cancellations which has gone on people’s nerves but they plan on rescheduling. The drinks are expensive and there are a lot of stairs. If you smoke, it’s a nightmare because you have to go out of the club and then out of the Printworks. It might be worth heading to for a big birthday with a group of people but it’s not your ideal venue for a quiet night.

I have been here I think three times now and I am still not impressed. The club is massive but for some reason I am not liking it at all. I go out to dance and be with mates but you spend most of your time going up and down flights of stairs with 9 inch heels. Not what I call a good time. Its like an airport check-in into this place walking through metal detectors and having your bag check. Fair enough it is safe but its a bit boring waiting to be checked when all you want to do is dance. The drinks are over-rated and prices are there to rip you off. It is very expensive so I find I rarely got drunk in here as the prices blew my head off and I could never get to a bar. Not my cup of tea… infact I would prefer a million brews than go in here again.

I am really not a fan of this club. Smack bang in the middle of the Printworks it represents everything I think is wrong with consuming alcohol in this country. There are queues, the drinks are not reasonable prices, the décor is lazy. The people who come to Pure often annoy the hell out of me. I’ve been here just the once so might have got the place all wrong but I won’t be returning any time soon. Getting in to a taxi into the centre of town last week, the friendly guy said– ‘Going to the Printworks? Pure or somewhere?’ Ooh did I scowl. Firstly I did not look like I would be going there — high necked vintagey floral dress, trench coat and tights. And secondly he seemed to like the idea of us going there, letting our hair down and getting absolutely wasted to girls singing in high pitched tones over dance tracks. Shudder. The club affected my group of friends so much that one was encouraged, no practically pushed, into cheating on a boyfriend whilst we were there. Thank god she was able to withstand the urge.

Pure is one of Manchester’s biggest clubs. It holds a maximum of 2500 people and has about 7 bars distributed across three different rooms. Being such a massive venue, it has taken the route of appealing to the commercial-loving crowd and that means dance/chart music and an 18-to-30 age range. The drinks are average but not cheap and if one bar is busy you can always go to another bar and another crowd. The door staff are strict on dress code and tend to turn away guys in groups so its best to break up in twos lads before get to the entrance. Overall Pure is worth visiting especially if you want to meet people from out of town.

Pure Nightclub is good for a boogie if you want to go to one of Manchester’s most impressive nightclubs. It is situated inside of the Printworks near to the Manchester Arndale. We were fortunate enough to gain free entry by coming before 11pm. The club goes right into the basement of the Printworks and is on several levels offerings different types of music. It is worth spending some time wondering round here, because the venue is just so enormous! The main room is for dance music, and as this wasn’t our cup of tea, we waited until gone midnight before another room opened offering chart music. It was disappointing that we had to wait so long for this room to open, but when it did it filled quite quickly. Drinks are by no means cheap in this place we paid over £8 for two bottles of alcopops! There was no queue for the cloakroom, which was a definite bonus, and it only cost £1 that falls in line with nearly every other venue. Overall, it is worth a night out here!

I have been to Pure a few times but to be honest it’s not really for me. I will give it its due it is a decent sized super club in the print works. It’s very central and located beside some great bars in the city centre. The normally play music for the 70’s right up to present day music. Most people that go here are probably in their late teens or early 20’s. Quite often after closing times there can be a bit of trouble because some of the lads that go seem to think they have a point to prove so don’t get anyone have a go at you. It’s a good night out if you go in a group but for me it’s a bit Chavy and I would rather stick to the Northern Quarter

Pure is a huge club with a capacity of over 2000 people. Pure is located towards the back of the Printworks and its central location attracts substantial crowds. However, being such a large space to fill Pure doesn’t quite succeed at creating the ‘superclub’ atmosphere it is trying to achieve. Pure is home to Retro on the second Saturday of the month and a roller disco every Wednesday. There are plenty of bars so queuing for drinks is never an issue. There are also some great stages for dancing on. Pure is by no means my favourite club but it is definitely worth a visit.
