This is my go to place when I need a cheat meal. They do burger meals for under £3. Their lamb burger is always juicy and tasty. I’ve heard the kebabs are good too!

Sajaan is a bit of an institution for me. It’s the first Indian/Pakistani kebab I ever had in the UK when I moved to Manchester over 6 years ago now and I always loved it. The fact you could stuff yourself with deliciously saucy and spicy meat and salad on a bit flat bread for £3 was just brilliant. And I genuinely always liked the taste of all three meats: chicken, lamb and shish. I managed to have a perfectly time opportunity and excuse to go last week after probably about 4 years. I went for lamb. Problem is, and I knew this before, a kebab doesn’t travel too well. Before I was only living 5 minutes away but now it had to cope with a 20 mins drive so the bread was saggy and the meat a bit cold. Nothing to do with the Sajaan guys however. My main criticism would be about the quality of the meat. I think it went downhill as my lamb was chewy and full of nerves. I still like the flavours but despite the fact the price has gone up(£3.80 now which is not that exorbitant for a full meal) the meat is not as good as it used to be. Would happily go back for the chicken or shish, hopefully in the near future though.

This place sells the best kebabs around. Period. Chicken tikka is fresh and cooked to taste in front of your eyes. Portion sizes are generous and the place is usually always busy which has got to be a good sign hadn’t it! Plenty of options here, great for after a few scoops too!

Went here for late night takeaway about a week ago. Was sorely disappointed by my soggy chips with diarrhoea-like curry sauce, and the garlic naan my friend got was neon and tasted neither of garlic nor really had the consistency of naan. However, heard good things about their kebabs and a few local police popped in while we were there to grab a bite too so can’t be all bad. Would not frequent again though with so many other more reliable alternatives in Fallowfield.

A Fallowfield institution, and my favourite Manchester kebabs over the 12 years I’ve lived here. Chicken tikka kebab with all the trimmings is the thinking man’s choice here. I can echo the two positive reviews below — the food is great and the staff are very friendly. It’s true that they also often(i.e. when it’s not rammed full of drunk people) give you a free poppadom/dip and(less often) a can of drink while you wait. Not to be confused with the Saajan in Chorlton as(sadly for me as that’s where I live now), this is not related — the chap here told me that the Chorlton proprietors have simply copied the logo, décor and menu — but not the quality of food or generosity of portion in my experience! The original(Fallowfield and Rusholme) is by far the best.

Not nearly as good as either of the two Saajans in Rusholme, and definitely not the best kebab in Fallowfield. Sajaan does admittedly see off the competition from the questionable Kebab King and Karachi Spice, but both Abduls and Raj do a better kebab in the Fallowfield area. If you are on a stop off on the way to Didsbury as previous reviews have suggested, then bypass all of these and get off the bus in Withington to get a Khan’s. The plethora of kabab shops in the student part of Manchester means two things. On the one hand quality can get away with being low as students drunkenly purchase donner meat in large numbers after midnight. On the other hand competition means those less well known /well positioned kebab places have to up their quality. Raj, Abduls and Khan’s have done this, Kebab King and Karachi Spice rely on pure numbers and proximity to Owens Park, Saajan’s is about half way between the two.

My friend used to live in Fallowfield and being a typical single male student, ate at takeaways pretty often. Just as me and my other Whitworth-Park dwelling friends would stop off at Adbuls or Gemini after a night out, he would never fail to stop at Saajan. Fast-forward 5 years. Single male student is still a student, but now, like many mature students has emigrated south to Didsbury. He still has a penchant for fast food, but not many residents of Didsbury share his fondness, therefore he was most upset when he found out that there are no late night kebab houses in Didsbury. So the resolution to this problem is that after a night out in town, he simply gets off the bus in Fallowfield, purchases his Saajan kebab and gets back onto the bus to Didsbury feeling content. It’s very rare for such an establishment to survive for so long without even the slightest hint of a rumour about cockroaches, rats or gross staff(a la Abduls and Gemini) to tarnish its reputation, so Saajan must be good. My friend is also generally very lazy, meaning that Saajan must be damn good.

Saajan has managed to acquire a bit of a reputation within the student community, and it’s not difficult to see why. They have clearly looked at the basic model a takeaway should adhere to, and then one-upped it, and then maintained that standard for around fifteen years. That’s a pretty good selling point. Like many of the takeaways in the Fallowfield area, they specialise in kebabs and burgers, but unlike many, do them well. I’ve never really heard anyone criticise the food and I don’t plan on being the first. Typical prices, so around £3 for a kebab, but since you can bank on it being good quality it makes a good price even better. You can sit in, but it’s not as big as the one in Rusholme, and doesn’t sell itself visually as well. The peculiar orange colour scheme is a little off-putting as well. The reason I’ve previously given Abduls next door a higher score, is that I’ve frequented Abduls more often. However, it’s really more of a tie, with prejudice swaying the vote.

Saajan takeaway is located on the wilmslow road in fallowfield. Its in line with other takeaways like abduls. Mcdonalds is also just few shops away from saajan. I like to eat at saajans as their food is really good and the staff are very nice and friendly. They also used to give pappodoms whilst you are waiting for your food whichi found very good for a takeaway. They also used to give free drink with food earlier in the aftrenoon. What i love about saajans the most is their Bread Naan. They are so delicious that you can just eat the naan with salad and still enjoy it though chicken tikka tastes much better with it.

I’ve been going to Saajan for the past 15 years and am really impressed with how they have maintained their standards. They have the best kebabs i have ever tasted and excellent variety including lamb chops, chicken tikka, curries etc. I go regularly to both branches, the one in Fallowfield and the one in Rusholme. The one in rusholme also has upstairs family seating so you can always take the family down for a night out. Excellent place!!!
