Tiger Lounge

Rude staff. Ordered at the same time. Same pizza. Served next to each other; one perfect, the other burnt to a crisp.

This poor review comes from someone who used to be a fan of Tiger Lounge but sadly after my last visit on Saturday I doubt I’ll be back in a hurry. I’ve always liked the quirky décor and 60’s music and the fact that everyone is up dancing. But this time the music was way off the mark and the dance floor empty. The usual great atmosphere was none existence and to add insult to injury I was treated appallingly by the bar staff. After checking that their usual £5 for 2 cocktails deal was on and given an affirmative, I ordered my drinks only to be told by a different barman that the offer was no longer available and I had to pay full price. After asking politely if the deal could be honoured as that was my main reason for ordering the drinks I was told no. When I said I didn’t want the drinks anymore as I had no intention of paying £10 for them the bar man shouted in my face. After getting the manager to see if I’d had more luck there I was told that it wasn’t his fault I was given miss information. Well yes it is when one of his bar staff gives a customer false advertising and another is extremely rude to them. Terrible customer service. Think some serious staff training needs to be done here.

This is a great place to dance. I like the 60s music and that everybody is up for it which makes for good times.
The interior is very kitsch with cat silhouettes in the ladies loos and photos of old school Hollywood stars like Kim Novak on the walls in the «Kitty Lounge». It was £2 to get in on Friday night or £1 with a flyer. Prices are reasonable once you get inside too. The barman was also very good when somebody swiped my beer.
Prepare to dance.

There are 4 reasons I go to Tiger Lounge.
1. It is George Best’s old stomping ground and you can sit in ‘his’ corner.
2. It’s outrageously cheap. Lager at Happy Hour (before 7) is around £2.40 and the cocktails are strong and on 2 4 1. It used to be cheaper but I’d trade inflation over closure any day.
3. The décor. Very kitsch… and welcoming. I discussed this with a member staff once. A lot of the furniture is taken from old bars refurbishing. .e.g. The Crown years back (which is now the Pudding joint on the corner).
4. Free pizza on a Friday for everyone. Nuff said.
Music on Fri and Sat is good and a nice crowd. I love after work beers here.. coming back upstairs with that 3 – 4 pint glow.
The only thing preventing this being a 5 star is that it’s not for everyone and some people hate it… see for yourself!

A cool little underground bar, it has a great relaxed vibe and some particularly appealing deals on drinks. Friday nights it is 2 for £5 on a selected range of cocktails. Don’t expect a fancy pants drink — these are your basic ‘put various liquids in a glass and stir’ type concoctions. But they do the trick.
They also have a ‘free pizza with a drink’ deal which needs a lot of fine print to explain that really it is ‘you can get a free pizza to share between a bunch of you if you all order a cocktail and we haven’t run out.’ My friend and I ordered drinks and pizzas separately (my friend had ordered 5 minutes before me) and it was noted by the bar staff that I had sampled a slice of hers. So when I went to ask where my pizza was I was informed that I had been disqualified from receiving a pizza as we were sharing. Luckily I was in a ‘sharing is caring mood’. Other patrons weren’t quite so willing to adapt to the changing rules of the pizza delivery. The pizza I sampled was a basic margherita that was tasty enough but hardly worth fighting for.

I LOVE this place, it’s excellent for after work drinks. It’s cheap, not too crowded and the staff are very friendly. The only reason that it doesn’t get a five is that the bathrooms need doing up.

I couldnt think of anywhere better to go for after work drinks, big nights out or birthdays than tiger lounge.
There is a nice chilled out happy hour with cheap wine and free pizza some nights and then dancing and drinking into the evening.
The staff are mega friendly and go out of their way like they made me a cake with my name on! they are just lovely!
Everyone should go to tiger lounge its amazing!!!

Tiger Lounge is the sort of place that inspires cultish devotion. If you’re not into faded glamour and you’ve never heard of Betty Page, you might wonder what the fuss is about. It’s small, dark and it gets awful crowded — but that’s because it’s a lovely place to be. Think 50s kitsch, knackered velvet and a fairly eclectic playlist, plus live music and curly fries.

I”m not too sure how to rate Tiger Lounge exactly. It’s hidden slightly out of the way near St. Peter’s Square, and offers a different experience to a lot of the nearby places. It’s the sort of place where you do feel as if you’ve really stumbled upon a real gem, and hopefully you’re experience there will reinforce this first impression.
They play a more diverse and less mainstream play list here, ranging from mo-​town to funk, so it could well be your cup of tea if you’ve been looking for a bar that isn’t playing the latest indie/​hip-​hop/​pop shite. The prices are good as well for a place which is, basically, in the city centre, and they do food though I’ve never had any.
Not much remains to be said other than, it’s worth dropping into to see if it’s a place you’ll enjoy.

Tiger Lounge is one of Manchester’s best night’s out… provided you like ‘50s and ‘60s music of course.
The placed is decked out like an exotic boudoir, with red velvet-​esque seats, kitsch trinkets and lots of leopard print.
The music in there is uniformly excellent, with the weekends focusing on ‘60s girl groups and beat. Midweek has seen everything from jive lessons and tea-​parties!
In the day, Tiger Lounge has some decent nibbles with pizzas and platters to share.
The beers and spirits are good quality and not going to make your wallet cry.
All in all, Tiger Lounge is one of the best places in Manchester and well worth a look. Of course, it’s not to everyone’s taste, but those that love it will end up loving it forever.

Ok, I’ve got to confess: I am completely in love with Tiger Lounge. I don’t know whether it’s the happy hour, cult movies or seedy soundtrack that’s got me hooked. But I can’t get enough of the place!
In terms of glamour, this place has definitely faded a little. But for lovers of kitsch, trash and rockabilly, its star still shines brightly. If you get there before 7.30pm, you can enjoy a pint for less than £2 or a cheap bottle of wine. On the other hand, there’s usually films, live music or a good club night if you get there in the evening. In fact, Saturday night offers the long-​running Tiger Lounge club night, which plays a great blend of sixties pop, easy listening, garage and psych. I love it!
The bar does quite nice food too. Its menu is reasonably priced and simple, featuring burgers, Mediterranean-​style sandwiches and — my favourite — the humble curly fry!

I have a friend who really likes Tiger Lounge. Me, I don’t see the appeal. It’s a small basement bar just off St Peter’s Square, which makes it good for avoiding the marauding crowds of students on their way to Tiger Tiger, but apart from that it’s a pretty bog standard place.
Apparently Tiger Lounge has a ‘quirky’ ‘old skool’ vibe to it, but all I saw was that it was dirty and had old fashionedy lampshades. The clientele were not the best either. On my way to the bar I was physically pushed out of the way by a boy with a camera, who was trying to take a photo of his mate doing a backwards bridge thingy in the middle of the floor. Oh, oh, pardon me, I didn’t realise it was the A-​hole Olympics, sir. Anyway, this clown aside, the rest of the punters seemed to fall into one of two camps; pretentious see-​and-​be-​seen scenesters and slightly scary thugs, one of whom was removed for being underage. Classy.
This is going to sound über snobby, but the place stinks. Seriously. After a few drinks and much debating, we decided that the place smells of sicked-​on urinal cake. Hardly the best aroma, I think you’ll agree. I’m not OCD, I don’t need everything to be spick and span all the time, but I think when you’re paying £3 for a beer, you can expect a table that isn’t covered in spilt drink. Apparently not at Tiger Lounge.
The drinks prices aren’t prohibitive, but they are steep considering the general grossness of the place. It’s around £3.50 for a beer, £4 for wine.
Tiger Lounge isn’t actively bad, but it’s nowhere near as good as people say, and that’s one of the reasons I won’t be going back.

What made me leave the fifth star off my rating for Tiger Lounge was that the last time I came here, my feet hurt like hell. And the only perch a friend and I could find was two stools right by the entrance next to a ledge covered in flyers and leaflets.
We were nowhere near the bar and the music wasn’t that loud and the shoes we were both wearing meant we only ventured from this spot a few times. So get here early on a Friday to get a table. I think this would vastly improve the Tiger Lounge experience (if you are wearing heels).
Other than that, I really did love it here. This is one of those venues that make you feel like you’ve discovered something special — even though it was rammed full on the night we went. The music ranges — from Motown to rockabilly. and the inside is kitsch as.
Really retro, a fun crowd and ok drinks prices. Tiger Lounge is a little on the small side — as in slight. It doesn’t feel like a destination to be honest but for drinks that lead to dancing, this is a hot bar to be in.

Tiger LOUNGE is an undergound gem that plays a range of soul, rock and funk nights and is completely moron free.
Tiger TIGER should be buried underground, has no soul, puts you in danger of being hit with rocks in socks, smells funky and is free to get in which only encourages the morons.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this bar! Really cool kwirky little bar in a basement off Cooper Street.
This is a place to go if your not a mainstream music fan. On the night I went it was mostly Motown which I was very happy about.
Not the biggest of bars but FULL of character, really is a hidden little gem. Prices are great considering its city centre and food is delicious :) Im such a happy bunny in here!

Tiger lounge is a rather dingey place based in a basement. The décor however is rather appealing and it feels like you are somewhere foreign. Its a lot larger than it looks from the outside and has quite a few cosy corners which provide a nice little space for reunions of old friends. However, be warned that if those groups of old friends get too large, and you wish to push some tables together, the bar staff are less than helpful. In fact I found the staff inhere to be down right rude.
There is an ok range of drinks and pretty good prices. But then that is what I would expect from somewhere where the service is not so great and the floor is sticky. Toilets are ok. Worth a look if you’re taking a few of the great unwashed out for a drink.

Tiger Lounge is a very kitsch and quirky bar/​café/​club on Fountain Street. It has a ecelectic/​60s theme running throughout with very decadant interiors which makes this a fun place to go to. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the people who go there are all ages and there is never any trouble. The prices are good, with cheap drinks and they have a menu of food which is reasonably priced and tasty. They have different nights on, sometimes with live bands but usually the music has a motown, mod or 60s theme. You can definitely have a great night here and it can very crowded.
If you are looking for something a little different this is the place to go to.

If your into your music and a bit of a rockabilly kid then this place is great. The walls will take you back with the nostalgic décor. For town the prices aint too bad and the music is great a bit of everything. they also have live. This place is ultra cool and totaly kitch!

Cool indie joint, some great gigs, run by Stefan, an old-​time promoter like myself. One of the best joints in town if you like your stuff non-​mainstream.
LAte opening hours and away from the students (at least when I have been in that is).
