Truly a Treasure Treasure pot is an apt name for this small Chinese delight given it’s easy to miss and damn tasty. Your doctor is unlikely to approve of most of the food here but I’m sure you expected that right, despite the food is delicious and morish. My personal favourite is the Chinese gravy they serve with their chips, sorry Britain but clearly we are doing it wrong with the old Bisto after a lick of the dark brown nectar they serve at the Treasure Pot. Their hygiene standard is currently 5 star and it’s clear they take pride in their little establishment and people seem to be taking notice. Friendly staff, reasonably priced with nice simple typical Chinese décor and they deliver what’s not to like here.

Pretty underwhelming meal overall, tried the dumpling soup which was OK. Seasoning wasn’t up to much and you can tell that nothing is really fresh and a lower quality meat filling used inside the dumplings. Same goes the the spicy vermicelli noodle which was the right amount of heat but was missing some nice portions of meat and prawns. Wouldnt go again personally, the search continues for a decent Chinese in Chorlton.

I am a leftover fiend. Therefore the true test of a Chinese takeout meal is, for me, whether it makes good leftovers. This is two-fold: 1) Is there enough to get a meal out of it the next day? 2) Does it taste good after sitting in the fridge and being reheated? I ordered hot & sour soup and BBQ pork chow mein. The soup was excellent — spicy without being pain-inducing with lots of sourness and savoury flavours. Also generous on the veg, meat and seafood. The chow mein was pretty good, though it was a little bit cold and not very spicy. So did it make good leftovers? Yes. The soup heated up really well without turning too gelatinous(as some do). I decided to perk up the chow mein by frying off some chillies and throwing them in along with soy sauce. The flavours had become more prominent overnight as well. Service was quick — I ordered for collection and it was ready in less than 20 minutes. Cheap and cheerful too — I paid £5.90 for two dishes.

My exploration of Chinese Takeaways in or near Chorlton continued if anyone saw my review of Bento King. After a few more takeaways from there I wasn’t totally set on it and decided I’d give some more a go. Treasure Pot however I’ve been using for the last 2 month maybe a little more. I’m a fan of their menu, eeeeven if they don’t have my illusive favourite dish that has dissappeared from anywhere I have tried to look(Duck in Vermicelli… to clarify NOT I repeat NOT Singapore style, just a simple savoury Duck in Vermicelli no spice just tasty. I have only known one place to do it and that place closed :(never to be found again) BUT! forgetting my favourite dish as I got a little sidetracked there weeping at my desk thinking of the memories, Treasure Pot food is pretty tasty. I must confess I am very much on the dryer foods of a chinese, I love my fried rices and I love my starters, I don’t often order things with sauces but when I have; — I’m not over the moon with their Plum sauce it’s a bit tooo thick even when warm and soon as it begins to cool and quick goes ‘gloopy’ — I like their sauce ‘brocolli n OK sauce’ though again soon as it starts to cool it thickens rapidly They obviously get a tick for being able to order through the JustEat app. The two things I’m a big fan of Char Sui Pork Fried Rice Dim Sum Special Starter for 2(Yes I know it’s for 2 people… shut up!) ANDANDANDANDANDAND!!! *takes a deep breath* They will deliver beer to!!! Now granted it’s just Chinese lagers, but they deliver it with the takeaway CHILLED!!! I tend to not keep a stockpile of beer in the house anymore, my fridge has been taken over by lettuce and other salad bits(weirdo) so being able to just tag a couple of beers on the order… AMAZE! They also deliver wine, I’ve not ordered it yet though so no idea if it’s good or bad wine

Easily the best Chinese takeaway in the city. Crispy, tangy, spicy and sweet, Treasure Pot offer up every takeaway favourite cooked to perfection. One of the top takeaways on Just Eat, Treasure Pot offer an easy ordering service(online or over the phone) and the food arrives piping hot and earlier than expected. In our house we usually order the same dishes when getting a Chinese(sweet chilli beef for me, Singapore vermicelli for him) so we have ended up trying these same dishes from an embarrassing number of establishments over our years in the city. Treasure Pot undoubtedly tops them all. Each dish comes cooked fresh, perfectly seasoned and at a damn good price. They even throw in rice crackers and fortune cookies for free because they’re nice like that. Bliss.

So I’m about to tell you a ridiculous story. Here at Unilocal we’re oft encouraged to incorporate anecdotes into our reviews to give them a personal touch, and it doesn’t get much more personal than this. I remember the exact date I dined thanks to the geniuses at Treasure Pot. It was 28th April 2011, the day before the Royal Wedding, a Thursday. I know this because it was my break-up takeout. Most of you who read my reviews know that there was a certain male with whom I lived for some years, and I may have discussed with you our totally amicable 100% mutual parting. Well, it’s five months later, and after countless levels of research, I’ve FINALLY found out the name of the takeaway we ordered from after we’d agreed to go our separate ways. It wasn’t just the sweet relief of getting that over and done with which made this such a good meal. This was a goo-oo-ood meal. Why? It’s the only place I’ve ever ordered from which does a mixed vegetarian starter containing SALTANDPEPPERVEGETABLES. Oh god, I love salt and pepper things. For £6, you get an absolute pile of salt and pepper mushrooms, aubergines and bits of pumpkin, as well as spring rolls and seaweed. They say it’s enough for two, sheesh, it’s enough for six. Ordering from Just Eat, I’m trying to remember what else we had but the mixed veggie dim sum was all mine, that’s for sure. It was so good it overshadowed everything else. I think we may have indulged in some chips, I might have ordered up a bit of bean curd, but oh, I’d hit the website just to grab some of that dim sum as a snack. Now that I’ve figured out I still live in its catchment area, I wholeheartedly plan to abuse this place regularly. It’s tasty, it’s fresh, and by golly it’s cheap. Thank goodness we were hungry after all the dramatic conversation, because I’ve discovered one of my new favourite takeaway spots as a result. Oh yay!

Well, this is a favourite take away of my friends, but after trying it last night I can’t really see why. The prawn toast tasted of nothing other than oil — with thicker bread than prawn layer. Prawn crackers were standard — and a bit too greasy. The duck in plum sauce — my friend’s dish — was disgusting. It’s the sweetest thing I’ve ever eaten, the sauce was runny and quite clear. A large bit of soggy lettuce was also in the dish — and looked like it had been stewing in there for some time. And the meat to(soggy) fat ratio was not good. The OK chicken was a luminous red and again, was pretty much made just out of sugar. Afterwards, I felt physically sick. But, as I say, my friend really likes it, so it must appeal to some people. Oh, and the shui mai were ‘really nice’.
