I love try Thai. We have eaten here so many times and keep coming back. Recommend Thai green curry, jungle curry… Holy basil with garlic. It’s all amazing. Prices are great and service is quick and pleasant. Good portion sizes and they make it nice and spicy if you ask for it.

Try Thai by far is one of my favorite restaurants in Manchester. I am a big fan of their Thai food. I went here 2 times in a week for dinner and highly recommend it. It was pretty busy both times — had to wait for 30 mins before we were seated, so it is certainly popular. The restaurant is on the second floor, with a bar on the first floor in which you can enjoy some drinks before dinner. My first time here I ordered green curry with chicken with rice. The chicken cooked prefectly, very juicy and tender. Inside the curry is a lot of different veggies; I have had curry in different Thai restaurants had no veggies inside, and this gets a bit boring after half of the plate. The green curry is quite spicy and I really love it… The second time I shared: the jungle curry with beef; noodles in red curry soup with chicken; seafood thai spicy salad; and some rice. The jungle curry was not very good. I didn’t like the sauce and it’s pretty soupy unlike the normal curries, which have thicker pastes. The seafood salad was really nice with a sauce that is a bit tangy and pretty spicy too. It might be the most spicy dish I have had in Try Thai! The noodles — like OMG they’re sooooo good… the soup is amazing it’s more like a normal red curry. Again — the meat is always cooked perfectly, both with the chicken and beef. We also had some dessert — banana fritters with vanilla ice cream and cream. I am not a fan of any cream so didn’t have that, but the banana fritters were pretty firm which was a pleasant surprise — typically fried bananas will become really soggy. The portions here are pretty big and satisfying. I would no doubt take my friends there again.

After the long journey from Edinburgh to Manchester, I was starving and I was craving Thai food. My friend who lives in Manchester recommended this place so we went for dinner. The place is in Chinatown and parking can be pretty tricky but you can find it. We didn’t have reservation and got lucky that we just waited for 5 – 10 minutes for a table. The menu is pretty big and it’s cool that it has pictures. They have a 2 dish dinner special for £10.95 and 3 dish dinner special for £15.95. The drink menu is pretty extensive and they also have non-alcoholic drinks like Thai ice tea and Buko pandan. I forgot what my friends and I got ordered cause we just pigged out and ordered several dishes. Just a warning, when you request the dishes to be spicy… Be prepared cause they don’t play. You’ll need a jug of water for sure! We got a dish with mixed vegetables and prawns, vegetables with soft shell crab, checked red curry, Papaya salad and of course jasmine rice. The papaya salad was good… Fresh, well seasoned but really spicy! Be careful with this dish and I’d suggest get a milder version because the peppers are fireworks. The most interesting dish was the soft shell crab dish cause I’ve never had it before. The crab was deep fried and crunch but soft in the middle. It was mixed with different type of vegetable with a very rich dark sauce… Assuming it’s an oyster base sauce, so very flavourful. The chicken red curry was standard… Nothing amazing but the typical curry you get in any Thai restaurant. The staff was a bit slow, not sure why them seem to be frazzled and crazy busy cause the place wasn’t that busy considering it was a Wednesday night. Just don’t be afraid to grab their attention when they walk by to request for more water! This place is pretty good, affordable and have many different types of dishes. The flavour is on point… it doesn’t go above and beyond or go below average from other Thai restaurants. What I do appreciate with this place is the dinner deal and affordability so gotta give them at least 3 snaps and a clap for that!

Looking for a spot of lunch after a mid morning visit to canal street and china town the Mrs and I just had to Try Try Thai! Unilocal is a useful old thing in a new city and after looking at the great reviews we eventually found Try Thai in among all the other Thai, Chinese, Singaporean restaurants that line the streets of china town. At lunch time, just the top floor is open so we wandered all the way up two flights of stairs. It was busy but not crammed, which is good considering it was a Thursday. We were presented with the lunch menu which had a few options. Three courses(one of which is coffee or a scoop of vanilla ice cream) at £9.50 or £12.50 which is OK. I did have a flick through their main menu and I’m glad we hit the lunchtime deal because everything normally is a bit pricey. I opted for the fish cakes starter and seafood Pad Thai for £12.50. It was very nice an certainly filled a hole. All finished off with a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream — lovely. A perfect lunch spot with a nice friendly atmosphere.

Hands down my favourite restaurant in Manchester. Every time I have friends & family visiting it’s the place I always take them, everyone loves it. The portions are huge & the staff are fantastic, always warm & welcoming. The menu is extensive & having been to Try Thai so many times I’ve tried nearly everything. You will be as hard pressed to decide on what to have as I always am! I would recommend the duck or belly pork in three flavour sauce(so delicious), the chilli & holy basil(if you like it hot, which I do) & the coriander beef(mouth watering). Can’t wait for my next visit!

Personally speaking, the food is okay but not that good as shown in other reviews. The environment is great, so as the service.

Although the name is «Try Thai», it is NOT authentic Thai food, because it’s a mixture of Chinese and Thai. The restaurant is owned by Chinese people and the service was slow and not nice. The atmosphere is pseudo-thai. I can tell, as I know Thai food very well. It’s cheaty. The quality is average, the service worst.

We booked a table for 9 people at 5:45 on a Friday evening. Due to the size of our party we were asked to put down a £5 deposit per person which seems to be a fairly standardised practice in restaurants nowadays. We arrived slightly early and were offered seating in the downstairs bar area, where we could order drinks as we waited. The table was ready for us within a few minutes so the drinks we ordered were bought up to our table. Service was friendly and very quick. I tried number 61 on the menu which is the three flavoured sauce. The description of which is ‘Crispy stir fry with Thai style three flavoured sauce garnished with crispy basil leaves’. You get the choice of numerous different types of meat and all dishes on the menu can be made vegetarian with just vegetables or with tofu and beancurds. I decided to have roast duck as the meat in my dish, which I was a happy to see was the same price as chicken, beef and pork. The duck was cooked to perfection with a slight crisp to the skin and a hint of pink running through the meat. The sauce was to die for, the mixed spice flavours had hints of hot spice, sweet tang and a smokey aftertaste. The menu as far as I could see didn’t confirm if rice was included with the meals, however the serving staff were happy to explain the menu and what different types of rice or sides could be ordered for a small charge. The only criticism I can give is that there was far too much garlic in the dishes, but of course that is common with Asian type dishes and also it’s just my personal taste preference.

I can’t declare on Facebook that this is my FAVOURITE place to eat in the WHOLE of Manchester without a review here! I lived in Manchester for three year and probably ate here about 50 times I guess. No split over 2 floors with a bar on the first floor level and the restaurant on the second floor. Now as you are probably beginning to realise I’m a creature of habit when it comes to places. I like pretty much the same thing each time Here I will have the great Hot and Sour Thai Soup especially if I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather. You can ask for it to be extra hot hot hot or not so hot if you are a bit lame. For mains I’ll have either a Thai Green, Red or Yellow Curry but I have been known to try other things over the years. They are usually experimenting with their latest drinks and cocktails so ask whats new on the drinks menu. It’s worth the 80 mile trip to Manchester just for the Hot and Sour soup alone!

I don’t usually give a one-star review, but this Time I have to. I took my colleague from Scotland there yesterday as my Thai friend who lived here suggested. It’s the first time he tried Thai food. The food wasn’t good at all. I ordered the beef steak entrée and it’s way too sticky. I could only finish half of it! The papaya salad has long been my favorite and this one was the worst I’ve ever tried. The service was bad. We were seated by a waitress and while she took us to the table, she answered the phone… and we had to wait for her to finish her call to get the menu. Not so professional! My colleague ordered another glass of beer. He was asked twice«would you like anymore beer?», we just ordered 5 minutes ago! Then, he had to wait for more than 10 minutes to get a glass of beer… Considering the prices, not so worth it. I’m Thai and this is pretty embarrassing and I would not recommend to come here.

Try Thai in Manchester’s Chinatown was a little hard to find and we somehow managed to walk past it once, but I am so glad we perservered. It’s very well reviewed on Unilocal so I had high expectations. I wasn’t disappointed! We booked a table for Saturday evening and it was a good job that we did. The restaurant itself, upstairs and spread over two floors was positively heaving with happy diners. We were shown to our table on the top floor which was very smartly decorated. I had no need to worry about the availability of vegetarian options and was spoiled for choice. I went with the sweetcorn cakes with a spicy dip to start and a vegetable dish with some kind of ribbon noodles for main course. I can’t remember what everyone else had, but there were lots of positive comments as everyone tucked in. My dishes were reasonably priced and the service was brisk and friendly. No room for dessert! This was my first foray into Manchester and I may have found the best Thai restaurant on my first attempt. Definitely going back for the lunchtime deal next visit! There’s a reason this place is so busy. Glad I followed the crowds!

The food and atmosphere was amazing. I have been living in Manchester for 8 months and I have never ventured into China Town for dinner. My friend wanted to have Thai food for his birthday celebrations so after turning to Unilocal for some advice«Try Thai» came out on top. I booked a table for 7pm and on a Tuesday I was expecting it to be quiet but the atmosphere was great. The staff were friendly, and helpful. We had the stuffed chicken wings and steamed muscles to start which were both amazing, the dipping sauce had a real kick to it. For mains we both had crispy pork pad Thai which for £9 tasted incredible. Would recommend this place highly for affordable yet tasty Thai food in the city.

I have now been here twice in the last couple of months. The quality of everything from the service to the venue to the food is amazing. As soon as you walk thorough the door you are welcomed by a very friendly host who takes you to your table. We were offered to order drinks which were served within minutes of ordering. An excellent start. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and they were heaving! This did not affect the service we received. The food that we ordered was all of excellent quality with just the right balance of spice and heat. The menu we ordered from was there lunch special at £9.50 which is excellent value for 3 courses. I would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area.

This was one of the best Thai meals I have had in Manchester in recent months. We arrived at 1pm and it was heaving! We were told it would be about 15 minutes wait but we were sat down to a table within 5 minutes so good start. We dined on the £9.50 lunch menu where you get a choice of starter, main and ice cream or coffee. The mains come with either boiled or fried rice. To start I had the coconut chicken soup and my girlfriend had chicken satay. Given how busy they were service was very quick. The soup was very creamy with a slight kick of chilli and lovely fragrant flavours. The satay was excellent and was crammed full of peanuts in the sauce. For mains we had beef with chili and sweet basil stir fry and a yellow chicken curry — both with boiled rice. These were excellent and the portions were quite large especially for what you pay at lunch. To round a nice meal of we both had ice cream. They serve the lunch menu ’till 4pm every day of the week. So if you’re thinking of where to go for a bit of lucnh definitely try Try Thai.

I’ve been to Try Thai plenty of times, mostly with work friends keen to take advantage of the rather good early dining offers(2 courses for £12.95, 3 for a few quid more, plus cocktail and 2−4−1 bottled beer offers). I was introduced to the restaurant by a colleague who is a seasoned traveller to Thailand, she’s been coming here for years because of the lovely food, smart décor and great staff(especially the Canadian lady whose name shamefully escapes me at the moment), I don’t blame her at all for coming back time after time, I return just for the crispy belly pork which is one of the meat options for your wide array of main dishes. Unlike many of the neighbouring restaurants, Try Thai scrubs up well, the décor is all the typical Thai bits and bobs, lots of carved wood, dimmed lighting and buddhas. It’s a smart place and the ground floor is styled more like a «swanky» bar, indeed you could just visit for cocktails but you’d be missing out if you didn’t go upstairs for the dining. The menu numbers quite a few pages, with banquet options I’d never be able to make a dent in, fiery salads, silky soups and deep fried morsels to start and main dishes from all over Thailand, mostly of the more famous varieties. I wouldn’t say Try Thai’s cuisine is the most authentic, Siam Smile around the corner takes that accolade by a mile, but it’s generally great stuff anyway, if you’re not accustomed to Thai cuisine and usually go for Indian then I think you’d like the thicker dishes here, rich, sweet and spicy red curry is better than most of the curries you get in Rusholme. I love the pad Krapow, the Thai basil and chillies blow your tastebuds away! I look forward to my next visit!

I was astonished at how lovely the inside of Try Thai is, the outside gave me the impression it was either going to be like the weird cheap whiteness of I Am Phở or the becarpeted tiredness of many of the Chinese restaurants. But it is really nice and you could definitely bring a date here. They have an amazing range of soft drinks including a green tea red bean drink which I loved. I also really enjoyed the softshell crab although it is expensive(£10.95 with no side). Service was very swift at first but I had to chase up my drink order and it was very difficult to get their attention at the end for the bill. Why can’t restaurants sort that issue out?! I would definitely return and recommend though!

I left my boyfriend in charge of booking a table for a meal out on New Year’s Eve, and Try Thai is what he came up with. I was pleased with this, as a) Thai food is delicious and b) they were serving a regular menu that night, rather than a special set menu — which never seem to give great value for money and are never what you actually want. On arrival I thought the restaurant looked quite small and poky, until the waitress led us upstairs where it is quite impressively large. The décor was a bit gaudy but this wasn’t something that concerned me — I was just looking for a good feed. I can’t remember exactly what we ate, as large quantities of alcohol were consumed during and after(it was New Year’s Eve, after all), but to the best of my knowledge it was: garlic spare ribs, Thai style grilled pork, lamb Massaman curry, garlic and fresh ginger stir fry with beef, and coconut rice. Shortly before heading out for the meal, my boyfriend expressed that he isn’t sure if he really likes Thai food. This theory was soon shot out of the water by him frequently mumbling ‘this curry is SOGOOD’ through mouthfuls of food.(It was even the first thing he said to me when he woke up the next morning). The bill was perfectly reasonable, at around £50 for two starters, two mains, a rice, a few beers, and for the wild card choice, two milkshakes to end the meal. I can’t and won’t comment on the authenticity of the food, but I can certainly vouch for its tastiness.
