Ahhhh, Vom Fass. I somehow can’t take it seriously. Maybe it’s the fact that it has the word ‘vom’ in its name. Maybe it’s the fact that it sells ‘sexy torso’ shaped bottles. Maybe it’s the fact that it is a bit rubbish, really. Don’t get me wrong, I am sure there are tons of people out there who’d just luuuuuuurve to receive a bottle of fruity vodka in a football shaped challis for their birthday. Really. But unfortunately for Vom Fass, I’m not one of them, and I’ve never met anyone who is. Admittedly, some of the vinegars are good for cooking, but if you’re buying fruity balsamic, there are better places for it. This place just leaves me cold, to be honest. I hate lazy gifting, and this, to me, is the height of lazy gifting, wrapped up as a quirky gift idea. It feels like a crappy Dragons Den attempt. I’m out.

I usually like my liquor served straight wish a splash of tonic or ginger ale over a couple of ice-cubes. The one exception to the rule is Vom Fass’s mouth-watering range of fruit liquors. As the shop lets you sample a drop of any you’re interested in, I’ve tried most of the flavoured vodkas and rums and can honestly say they taste delicious. The spirits are kept in glass barrels so you can see the amazing colours and you can buy any amount from 100−500ml depending on which bottle you choose. My recommendations are: Sour cherry vodka Blood orange vodka Cranberry and lime vodka Mango lime vodka Limoncino & Lime caipirinha The Raspberry Balsamic vinegar is also pretty good on salads but I wouldn’t consider drinking it! Unless I had the DTs that is…

Stuck for something to buy for a fussy friend? Look no further… I’ve been a fan of Vom Fass for years and over time I’ve introduced so many people to it, all of whom love it, I think I should be on commission for them! Basically Vom Fass sells little bottles of alcohol and little bottles of oils and vinegars. Not the most thoughtful of gifts you might think but that’s just where you’re wrong. Everything about Vom Fass is personalised. You first of all pick your bottle… they have a wide range of different ones including presents, stars, shoes, motorbikes, hearts, sailing ships… the list goes on. Then you pick what you would like to fill the bottle with. In the alcohol they have a huge range to choose from including normal spirits to fruity cocktails to fine whiskies and brandies. In the vinegar and oil section they have tons of stuff for food lovers including fruit infused vinegars and a huge range of nut and olive oils. They offer tasters in everything which makes the actual shopping for the gift very enjoyable too! They then ask if you’d like a personal message added to the bottle which they hand write on with a special pen, before gift-wrapping your purchase in a beautiful gold bag! They literally do it all for you! Vom Fass has two stores in Manchester, both of them based within the Selfridges stores of the Trafford centre and city centre. I usually go to the one at the Trafford Centre as I find the staff are usually more helpful. With Christmas not too far away I can’t recommend this place highly enough for anyone who has never come across it before, it’s just ace!
