I went to this place for a comedy night on a Tuesday night and I was fascinated by the unique vibe of the Zombie shack: bamboo prison cells, paint art on the walls and a giant shark painting behind the stage! As quirky as it gets ;) They had a nice cocktail list. When in Zombie shack… why not go for the«Zombie»! Good choice I might add for a rum lover. I would recommend.

This venue was not what I expected. It was very small and hot, and the drinks were overpriced. I only came here for an event: which in itself was great, so I’m giving this place 2 stars and not 1 because I enjoyed the show. The red wine tasted awful, and when I took it back I was told there was nothing wrong with it, it was ‘just a bad wine’. Also charged £2.20 for a bottle of water. Do I really want to climb a spiral staircase to get in then listen to trains passing overhead? No thanks

Its a bit hidden away(kind of) so that may explain why it wasn’t particular busy on a Friday night. Or maybe people wanted to go to bars with outside seating since it was a fairly warm evening. Thirsty Scholar which is next door was busy outside — although may have something to do with the 2 hot fire eaters/dancers. Anyway, back to Zombie Shack. I have a Zombie cocktail. It cost £7 which is about normal for a Zombie cocktail when compared to other places. It was OK. Didn’t taste particularly strong though. The bar itself was OK. Decorated in typical tiki bar style. To get to the bar, you have to go up spiral stairs. Could be a bit«dodgy» if you were drunk!

A nice little place just off Oxford Road. A pre-club place where you can squash into a booth and all sip cocktails from the old treasure chest or try the zombie where the slice of lime is set alight. The atmosphere was very friendly and people were dancing on the dance floor and enjoying themselves. A good place to go to chill out and for something different and cool to show your out of town mates.

While on a bit of a random Monday night out with friends, we decided to break away from our usual NQ heavy bar rotation and head towards the sometimes called Southern Quarter of Manchester city centre. After some £2 cocktails in Font and then a massive meal in Zouk, our bellies were so stuffed that it was borderline whether we A — could actually fit anything more in and B — needed any more drinks… but hey ho, where’s the fun in that so after seeing that some of the guys on the Unilocal Manchester talk boards had checked out Zombie shack, we thought we’d give it a go ourselves. So Monday night wasn’t probably the best night to get a full representation of this place — there were 4 of us, 3 bar staff and one other couple at another table, but at least the cocktails were served quickly and we could have a good chat(God, I’m getting old…) The Zombie was definitely the pick of the bunch in terms of the cocktails — literally rocket powered and kept my friend nicely ‘beer-scootered’ towards the train station and for the guys there’s ice cold Red Stripes in the chiller. Overall it was a quick nip-in this time but we all agreed there was something about it which would mean we’d definitely be back in the future, hopefully when it’s a bit more lively at the weekend.

Tiki bars are the toast of the town currently in Manchester. Hula, Keko Moku and the Liar’s club have all been pleasuring cocktail lovers for a while now and they can all rejoice as another Polynesian-themed bar has adorned the Mancunian night scene. Zombie shack opened its doors last Wednesday and I went along to see how the venue(formerly known as the Attic) had been transformed into its new incarnation. Located above the Thirsty scholar on Oxford road, this particular Tiki bar provides a great alternative spot for a few cocktails. The Northern Quarter has become THE main hub for thirsty cocktailovers and this venue placed on the other side of town, perhaps provides a perfect place to start the night. The entrance to Zombie shack is quite hard to miss, the wall directly under the Oxford Road train station bridge adorns a colorful splash of graffiti bearing the Zombie Shack coat of arms. The adjacent rather steep spirally staircases then funnel you into an intimate little dimly lit bar. Walking in, you’d find the bar to the right, a hive of activity. The dance floor in front of you takes center stage and as you perform your first 360, you’ll find the walls are worn by more brilliant graffiti creating a mini cocktail eco-system. The seating is rather limited as is space in general, but that actually works in the bar’s favor creating a vibrant atmosphere. The cocktail menu will be familiar to most cocktail connoisseurs, with naturally«The Zombie» being the centre piece. A few of these bad boys(each including five different rums) and you’re guaranteed to forget all your worries and everything else, reducing you to a stumbling, mumbling, haitian corpse. I love this place, but a word of warning for the fairer sex, wearing high heels is not advised. Walking down the steep spirally stairs on a wet Manchester evening after a few could prove more dangerous than a stroll down the streets of Baghdad red zone.
