Ok, so I am going to admit something here. I don’t like the castle tours. I know I came all the way to Ireland and Scotland and your supposed to be all interested in the history of who lived in these amazing places but I really couldn’t care less. However I do love nature and this place had plenty of it. There were gardens, a deer park and a swan lake with tons of ducks birds and a family of swans with little swan babies. There was a nice playground for kids. We did take the castle tour here and it wasn’t bad the guide was well informed and it wasn’t too long, but I still would have rather been out in all that pretty nature. Great place for an all day picnic. I am sure there was tons of stuff we didn’t even see.

Am I taking crazy pills? Why am I the first person to review this fantastic National Trust property?! Well my friends, it’s a bit of GBP investment but it’s well worth it. You can easily spend the whole day here. Definitely bring a picnic and tootle on down to South Ayrshire for a lovely day out. The«castle» is really more of a mansion, richly detailed and a festival of information for architecture, history and art buffs. The grounds are expansive, great to explore on foot or with three separate parking lots(the castle, the walled garden and the swan pond). You can skip the castle and just explore the grounds and it will still be well worth the time(and slightly cheaper). This is a gorgeous showpiece of Scottish tourism, and only an hour from Glasgow.
