The food is surprisingly good. The Japanese & Chinese selection will cater to whichever craving you may have. Very pleasant ambience and service.

Shame on me! I’ve travelled a long way for great meals and sometimes, it’s easy to ignore choices much closer to home! I have actually looked at Toko Diner’s menu a few times before when walking past and have always been put off by the fact that it covers a wide array of Asian food genres — there are dishes from China, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam. I doubt whether a kitchen can excel at any one cuisine if it tries to be a jack of all trades. However, was looking for a bite to eat after a recent UYE and decided that I had to give this place a go as it’s so close to home. A quick chat to the waitress confirmed that they were Chinese. So I ordered crispy noodles with seafood and went for the mixed sashimi platter Well, I have to say that I enjoyed both dishes. The crispy noodles had some satisfyingly crunchy thin noodles as the base and a generous mix of seafood and vegetables on top with a savoury sauce. The sashimi was a mix of tuna and salmon and the quality of fish was good. They kindly gave me some melon as a free dessert. Overall, this place surprised me in a good way and I shall be back. I wonder if I can try to persuade them to add some Malaysian dishes to the menu!

It’s pretty hard to find a good quality Chinese takeaway in our corner of South London/Surrey borders. It’s quite hard to find a decent Japanese restaurant. It’s also hard to find a reasonably priced Thai takeaway restaurant. So, thankyou Toko. Having lived in Morden for 3 years my husband and I hadn’t really explored the food possibilities in Morden centre beyond KFC. But the accidental discovery of Toko was a really pleasant surprise. Whether eating at the restaurant or getting take out, the food is good, it is reasonably priced and the staff are really friendly and helpful. The soft shell crab roll is amazingly tasty. Probably most amazingly though, is that they’ve been operating for 8 years and the quality is still great(assuming it always has been great of course!) 1 negative: they don’t do beef ho fun. But then it is really a Japanese restaurant so I guess we can’t hold it against them!
