Garage Bikes is exactly what you want from your LBS, staffed by friendly knowledgeable folk who actually ride(more than you or I probably). And who actually know and love bikes. No bored teenagers looking for a bit of Saturday job money here, these guys live the cycling life. Set up initially as a repair and servicing centre, Garage has grown over the last few years to stock a selection the stuff you need most: pedals, seats, tubes, lights, brake pads, tyres, helmets, lube, nutrition, gloves(and much, much more). Because they are tight on space, their selection is carefully curated — it’s all quality stuff. Sure, they will rarely beat Chain Reaction on price(because the bike industry rewards the soul-less box shifters with huge discounts, but sells to your LBS for more than CR and Wiggle can retail at) But when you need something, Garage has it there and then, and the prices are still reasonable. The servicing here is superb too. The number of times I have taken my bikes elsewhere, only to have them returned with something loose, something not sorted, the shock the wrong way round. None of that at Garage Bikes — these guys really know their stuff when it comes to wrenching. They are focussed n MTB, but they will happily fix anything from a kids trike to a BMW or an exotic carbon time trial machine. And there’s no snottiness or elitism here. They’ll explain even the most arcane technical stuff in patient and easy language. You’ll usually meet friendly locals in there, who are generally interested in your ride, and you’ll see a whole host of tasty rides wheeled in and out. Add the fact there there’s usually coffee on when you pop in, and that they run shop rides all year long, usually with cake afterward, and Garage is a contributor to the local cycling community.
