Hogshead

A fairly standard pub. Service is a bit slow and lack lustre, and it isn’t the cleanest. However it is fairly priced and good for a quiet drink during the week.

This is a great, lively young pub.
If you want to watch sport they have a huge screen plus many smaller ones in other area’s on the pub.
Located just next to the canal, it is a great pub to be all year round, there are a few chairs outside next to the canal, where you can sit in the summer.
They also have some chairs and some tables to the front of the pub, allowing people to sit and watch the goings on in Newbury market place.
The food served is good traditional pub food.

I would say this is the best pub to watch live sport at in Newbury, they have a large projection screen and various flatscreens dotted around the place.
The atmosphere is good and drinks are cheaper than some of the other pubs close by. The food is what you would expect from a chain like The Hogshead — nothing special, but it’s relatively cheap.
Visit here in the summer to sit in the outdoor terrace beside the canal.

The Hogshead has been the pinnacle meeting please for many an evening out in Newbury. The pub is very large with several integrated section, and boasts a very large array of screens for watching the latest sports fixtures.
Pub prices for drinks are very standard, which is customary, but at least The Hogshead serve food — of which it is a reasonable standard and of a reasonable price — although I wouldn’t choose to eat there on a regular basis. If a group of 10 or more of you are attending The Hogshead they will supply a free complimentary buffet — obviously this is to encourage your permanence in the pub and spend more of your money on alcohol.
The pub always has a very welcoming atmosphere, regardless of the time of day, and the floor service is a welcome addition particular during the busy weekend service.

Great lively pub on a Saturday evening so if your young and want somewhere to go before you hit the clubs then would highly recommend. The pub overlooks the canal and in the summer the doors are open and you can sit outside.

The Hogshead is a great pub for daytime, evening or a night out.
In the daytime, it is lovely for a pub lunch, with the option to go outside overlooking the canal (its pretty I promise).
THIS IS NOT A FAMILY PUB. Just wanted to state this, and they are quite strict on ID.
The food menu is varied and does good standard pub food, and they do 2 meals for £7.99 at lunchtime (from selected options).
In the evenings its a friendly pub to go to, ideal for a chat with friends, playing pool or the itbox (my favourite).
At the weekends, it gets really busy and you will sometimes have to que to get in. Holds events sometimes (such as those from facebook) and is good fun.
The prices for drinks are average, and they dont often have drinks promotions.
