Fantastic place to eat in Newcastle and I used to eat here about once a week when I lived here! I was vegetarian at the time so my favourite was the veggie club sandwich and wedges, which was also really good value. My non-veggie friends also used to rave about the chicken club sandwiches and lasagne.

Three of us went on a Thursday afternoon and opted for the meze to share. Expecting a wave of courses to come one after the other I was somewhat suprised to find that they delivered everything at once. Consequently we felt a little rushed. Everything was very tasty, the moussaka especially went down well. However we all came out thinking that although we had had a good meal we were still hungry. Not the way I usually feel after a meze. Nevertheless I would go again.

Used to love Café Neon! Went there yesterday, not a very good welcome! Waited ages to be served, even though the place was very quiet. One of the waiters is very miserable, and it brings down the atomosphere. Café Neon used to be very busy, full of young Greeks — no sign of them yesterday. The food is still very good, but I’m not keen on the slow service, and the miserable member of staff. There was only two staff in there, so not so friendly as Bikerbabe’s experience! Don’t know if I will bother again…

Mmm, I LOVE Café Neon! I have been coming here for about 12 years and it it such a friendly place with the tastiest food. The owners are Greek and have kept this café simple, but with the nicest food on offer. A small upstairs seating area when you go in, but down the spiral stairs is a huge basement with loads more seating. They serve everything from Meze to Souvlaki, toasties & crepes. They are licensed so have a bar, and in a nice day you can sit outside and gaze at the famous Bigg Market with a beer in your hand! Café Neon is open late so is perfect for a lining on your tum before you hit the pubs.
