My friend and I popped in for a late Thursday dinner, we were the only ones in the restaurant. Though the atmosphere was quiet, I liked the industrial décor and it’s in a great central location. My friend got wings, and I got a quarter chicken. We shared some fries and rocket-fennel salad. There’s a tabasco-like sauce on the table, but any of their specialty hot sauces cost money per shot — or you can buy the bottle. I mean, I like a great hot sauce selection, but I wasn’t going to pay £1−2 for a shot of sauce, that seems silly, so we didn’t bother. The chicken was juicy enough, but not terribly flavorful — no marinade, it seems, just salt-pepper? It wasn’t terribly crispy either. Sides were fine, but without a selection of interesting sauces, the overall feeling for me was pretty bland(though we did make short work of the yummy fries). Much as I love to support independent businesses, I wouldn’t bother coming here instead of Nando’s unless I was in this area and really craving chicken. Nando’s just tastes better and you get more fun sauces, and it’s cheaper. For them to be competitive in the chicken-with-sides arena, they need to have an improved product and/or some lower prices!

Salt, pepper and lemon chicken is on the menu here at this independent chicken house. And it’s very good. The chicken was juicy and flavoursome. That flavour profile is just delicious. Their sweet potato fries were also delish. Price wise it is very reasonable. Try this place next time instead of Nandos. You won’t be disappointed. Service was great, décor is cool and hip. Great addition to Newcastle’s food scene!

Good food and good service, tucked away in a hidden spot right ear the train station. Found this place via Unilocal and LOVED the food. Grilled not fried chicken(hooray!), local beers, and yummy sweet potato fries and I was set! My wife and I split a large order of salt & pepper & lemon chicken wings and a portion of sweet potato fries each(we don’t share when it comes to sweet potato fries!). The flavor on the wings was surprisingly nice, but I wish they had more flavor options for next time. The service was very friendly and accommodating for our large and loud group. I’ll definitely be coming back here the next time I’m in Newcastle!

This was my first visit to the COOP Chicken House, having found it on the Open Table app. Having tried a well known chicken restaurant chain before, I was a little sceptical about what the food was like. So, I was totally bowled over with my experience. I was staying at the Hampton by Hilton Hotel, just a three minute walk away, so this was a really convenient place Togo and eat. My table was booked for 7.45pm and when I arrived there was a table of ten having a really good time and eating well(a very good sign). I was warmly welcomed and escorted to my table. The menu is simple, as really there is one thing on the main menu, and that’s chicken(yes, a bit of a surprise, but then you should realise this when you look at the restaurant name). I started off with the hummus which was really good, followed by half a chicken, sweet potato fries and a shot(yes, really) of the banana habanero(a milled/medium chilli relish). The chicken was superb, juicy and very tender, cut into portions, and served with those sweet potato fries. When I finished, there was just empty bowls and chicken bones. That probably says it all. Service was excellent, and my waitress, Georgia, was fantastic. She was more than happy to explain to a novice like me, what to expect, and what the sauces were. I saw some that said«evil» and«nuclear» which if you like things hot, are perfect. I am, however, a woos when it comes to hot, and I opted for the banana habanero. It’s warm, but very pleasant. So good in fact, that I purchased a bottle to take home with me. I rounded off the meal with a Rees’ peanut butter and chocolate slab, with ice cream. So bad for the waistline, but just sublime and a hell of a way to round off such a great meal. This is a one of a kind restaurant, and not a part of any chain. I live in West London and I’ll be back for more chicken. I will not be going back to Nando’s or entertaining KFC after my experience here. I’m sure the Geordie hospitality was a big factor in my enjoyment of the evening, along with great food at affordable prices. If you are expecting 5* fine dining, then this is not the place for you. However, if what you want is chicken, cooked to perfection, then this really IS the place you should head to. There are not many tables, so reservations are highly encouraged(I saw several potential guests being turned away because there were no available tables). Would I go again? You can bet your life I would. As for recommending the place, for sure and without question. You really must give it a try! Well done to all staff in the restaurant. Oh, the restaurant has a loyalty card too, which I was given one. You’ll get a free whole chicks on your tenth visit! How good is that!

Easily my favourite place to eat in town. If you love chicken then you have to try this place out. I tried the full roast chicken with sweet potato fries which was amazing. The chicken was cooked to perfection with moist pieces which just fell off the bone. I also tried a shot of whiskey flavoured hot mustard sauce which was beautiful. The décor and layout of the restaurant make for a really cool vibe and they just happened to play a ton of my favourite songs too! Great food, great vibe and a real gem for Newcastle.

Walked in & got greeted, sat down ordered a drink(£2 for a regular) the smell of the food was yumm, there’s a drinks menu on the table, the waitress brings the food menu, I got Chicken Caesar salad £6.50. I’d maybe go back for something else next time.

I’ve walked past loads heading to Hippo For a lunchtime butty, but popped in with fellow Unilocaler Katherine M and was very glad I did. The interior is all reclaimed and upcycled chic with a very modern and attractive feel. Lots of the décor was probably already here. I didn’t have room for a full on chicken meal but was sooo tempted by the choices of hot sauce. They included«evil» and«nuclear» so I have to go back. Still hummus, and fries were more than filling for lunchtime :-)

Why has it taken me so long to eat here? This place is amazing!!! Arguably not the best option if you are a vegetarian but the name and countless chickens in the window give that away. It has a great vibe as you walk in with modern yet old style industrial lighting and open plan dining. The staff are all super friendly and explained how it works… chicken, sides and more importantly which sauces you want to try. There are a couple called ‘nuclear’ and ‘evil’ that I would be tempted to try when I’m feeling brave! Generous portion sizes and reasonable prices too! I couldn’t fault this place… give it a try!

Oh how I hate to give this place four stars, but alas… the sides let me down ever so slightly after a few visits, if that gets sorted then an unquestionable five stars. The real star here however is the chicken, and glorious chicken it is! So much so that the first time I went with a friend we ordered a half to split, given the amount of sides we got, but we ended up going for another half so should’ve gotten a whole chicken to begin with. :D It’s proper rotisserie chicken with a sea salt on the skin and lemon on the side… if you like chicken I’m not sure you could go back to another place after here, and if you’re a Nando’s kinda guy or gal, do yourself a favour and try this place ASAP. As mentioned the sides let me down a bit however… the fries were good, and sweet potato fries nearly divine, but along with the corn on the cob they never seemed to have that«fresh from the fryer/grill feel» which in contrast to the«just off of the rotisserie» chicken made them stand out even more in contrast.(Apologies, I do like to put things in «quotes»… not sure why.) Another plus for sauce and heat fiends like myself is that the back of the menu is literally nothing but sauces that can be ordered by the shot or bottle in a range of heats… definitely fun to play around with. No worries if you’re against paying for an adventurous sauce though, there’s a few standards on the table… including a good BBQ sauce and Crystal River hot sauce amongst ketchup, etc., so there’s no need to splurge on the crazy sauces unless you would like to. Side note, they do two draft beers as well… perfect to wash it all down. If you’re looking for something fancy or wildly varied this may not be your place, but having left Newcastle now I’m going to miss it more than I should when it comes to a quick and simple meal that hits the spot… I suppose that says it all.

Very awesome place! Very interesting BBQ house in Newcastle. Serving up BBQ chicken meals to share or single meals are also an option. It’s my understanding they do take away however that would be a boring review. So I took one for the team and went into Coop on a Friday after work. The place Is small but effective, the décor is modern casual and resembles a chicken coop. Located at the back is a massive chicken rotary cooker. The ordering is simple, how much of a whole chicken do you want, select sides, select drinks and select from large list of delicious sauces to dip your chicken in. The foot is really nice. The place, like most BBQ houses are meant for table sharing. There was more then enough food for me and my friend and were both full sized men. They have beer, beer is awesome! Staff were all awesome also, will return. They have a loyalty system punch card idea. 10 visits and you score yourself a chicken! Check it out if you like BBQ

This restaurant has been open for about three months now and it is absolutely amazing. The menu in the restaurant is what I wish places would be like. Its very short you have the option of a quarter, half or full chicken. The big decision is what go for. the waitress helped us a lot by telling us that we could order more if we ran out during our meal. We ordered a number of different shots to try and get a variation of hotness. And were some of them hot! The sides pretty tasty too we ordered one of each to eat between four of us and it was quite sufficient. Overall an excellent lunchtime out. The staff were very attentive chatty and knowledgeable about the products.

Fantastic new restaurant in Newcastle, I expected it to be bigger inside, but the place had a great feel and atmosphere. The chicken was absolutely delicious, we ordered the full chicken between two of us and it was ample, it was already cut into portions which made it easy to eat. I really liked that there’s a whole menu dedicated to sauce! You order as shots so you can have a few per meal, I highly recommend the hot coconut one. For the sides I had the guest halloumi and veg which was perfectly grilled my partner had the slaw which went down a treat. I will most certainly return here.
