Great little grungy pub! Always plays good music, and has a jukebox. You pay around £3 for a pint, but this is pretty standard for the centre of Newcastle — and for being so close to the train station. Their quiz always canny, as is the comedy night. When there’s a student night on at Digital be warned though, the place gets absolutely rammed!

I love this bar. In fact, it’s my favourite bar in the surrounding ‘gay triangle’. For anybody visiting town, or just having a night out, whether your are straight or gay, it makes no difference, this bar is great fun. It holds two large screens with Sky Sports all day long on one half, and on the other half of the bar, up the stairs a bit [only 2, but steep so be warned after a couple of drinks!), there is a pool table and some sofas to sit down on. There’s also a jukebox which plays mostly rock, indie music. It’s enjoyable for all. Loos are nice, only two for females, and one small mirror, they are small, but clean. The bar is very central, and only around the corner from Eclipse. It’s opposite the Life Centre and it’s by Digital, Twist, Baron and Baroness, which is ideal for hitting clubs afterwards. It’s near to Gossip, The Dog, Switch and Powerhouse too, and not far from a local Hotel Inn Express for staying over night. Also situated by some fast food take away shops and a small paper shop. Prices are good; a bottle of K2 is £1.50. The staff are very friendly and laid back. I love coming here just after work and sitting with friends, it’s nice and snug inside and has a warm inviting atmosphere. Thumbs up from me!

good for a few drinks before/after getting on a train — located near the train station. good for a few drinks but a bit cramped inside and not the cleanest

Good little bar, though I wouldn’t say ‘cheap’ — beer is almost £3 a pint. Friendly staff and good jukebox. Not a lot of lighting at night, which I quite like, sitting in the gloom with a pint and reading my paper by the light of my mobile phone :) Only real downside is the quality of the beer can vary at times — needs a bit more care in the cellar.

Situated opposite the centre for life the Dog and Parrot is a small pub with a cosy, traditional atmosphere. Featuring a pool table, quiz machine and duke box the Dog and Parrot is great for a few relaxing drinks and a bit of friendly banter. It hosts a comedy night every Tuesday and is often home to live music. Drinks are good value with bottles of wine for £7.

This pub has changed a lot from being full of mostly gothy/punky types to being mostly full of indie types. This is a very small pub with a nice coal fire. There is a function room upstairs which is rented out mostly for local bands. The drink prices are average and the house trebles are cheap. The Dog & Parrot is a great place to have a quick cheap pint before heading to the Carling Academy(seconds away) to see a band. The staff are always friendly and a lot of random people will talk to you. This pub has a great amosphere. Over the past year I’ll admit, it has gone downhill under new management however, it still attracts some of the has been regulars and remains one of my favourite pubs in Newcastle.
