As a Wetherspoons branch, The Mile Castle offers nothing special, but it does exactly what it’s supposed to do and it does it well. The food and drink menus are extensive, the prices are unbeatable, and the service is efficient. We visited for lunch(excellent £4 deli deal with drink), and both enjoyed our food very much. The place is huge, but all tables are numbered, so placing an order is easy, and you know you’ll get the food fresh from the kitchen. The place gets loud. I’m not sure how this happens, but Wetherspoons always seems to be loud, at all times of the day. The Mile Castle follows this trend. It’s spread over three levels, and there are loads of seats, so it fits a lot of people. Tables are not always cleaned down adequately between customers, but it’s not a major issue, and we definitely enjoyed our visit overall, so can recommend this place for decent food, excellent value, and good fun.

On our recent visit to Newcastle we tried three different Wetherspoons /Lloyds no. 1 bars. 1 The Quayside 2 The Union Rooms 3The Mile Castle On the whole we preferred The Mile castle. We loved their three spacious floors of varied seating, with its sofas and comfy booths. We also loved the food, three different meals on three different days, and every one of them was perfect. The Mile Castle was also the only bar I had ever been to which had Roman Amphorae(big ancient food and drink containers) on display on the ground floor.

I decided to venture out this morning to see what the city of Newcastle could offer me in terms of breakfast. I had located the Mile Castle via my JDW app of my phone. Seeing it was just steps from my hotel, I thought I’d try it out. As with any Wetherspoon, it does what it says on the tin and offers good food and drink at very affordable prices(my traditional breakfast, fresh fruit salad and yoghurt, with a refillable coffee, cost me all of £5.48 — cracking). Service was offered with a smile and a chat, in true Geordie hospitality. For breakfast, I’d recommend this place to anyone. The pace is slower. The atmosphere quieter, which is perfect. I’m sure the meals throughout the day are equally as good. Well done to all staff, seen and unseen, for making this such a positive experience.

I ended up here last night as my friend and I had the sudden urge to dance to some 80’s or 90’s classics… the wine must have had something to do with that! Who can resist busting some moves and singing along to Five or Lionel Richie?! As I made my way up to the top floor I looked around at the clientele and all I can say is at 29 years old I was by far the oldest person in there! I felt like I was gatecrashing a school disco but regardless we still had a good time dancing as though we were in our own little world. There are always cheap drinks deals to be had here with it being a Wetherspoons. Yes the alcohol isn’t always the best so the wine tastes a bit like vinegar but if you stick to bottles then it’s not so bad. We were doing rounds last night and we always had change from a fiver for two drinks which is unheard of in most Newcastle pubs/bars. If you’re looking for a cheap night or are in the mood for a dance then Mile Castle is the place!

The one stop shop of a pub. Turn up in the morning for breakfast and a quiet atmosphere. Hang around in the afternoon for a fresh pint of ale and some TV viewing. Get some cheap drinks for the start of a night out. Nail some shots and hit the dance floor until late in the nightclub atmosphere. Other than that it is a regular Witherspoons type pub set on 3 levels and has a mix of the young to 30’s crowd.
