I wanted to add this pub to the review selection because it has the most amazing food. We went here for lunch on New Year’s day at the recommendation of a colleague and were very suprised. Not only does this pub have a fantastic selection of meals, much of it is local and home-style. The special of teh day was broth and a bun, then Mince and Dumplings for main. Although we didn’t have this, we were really happy to find somewhere with good, unpretentious, home-cooked meals. I chose the Haddock for my meal as it had been caught fresh in Shields that day. I can’t recommend the fish enough, very well cooked, tasty. meaty and the batter was cooked to eprfection. Served with home-made chips, which were exactly as I like tham and peas and tartare sauce, for £7.95 it was a bargain. My OH ordered Gammon Steak with the trimmings. This was £8.95. Imagine our suprise when instead of the usual, un-naturally round gammon, they served a real, chunky gammon steak. I stole a peice to try and it was fantastic. Overall, this is a normal, everyday pub but the food and service is outstanding. It’s just above the sea in Cullercoats, so we were able to walk along the coast to work up the appetite, and it was worth working up for for! A++
