As far as Waitroses go, this one is pretty crap. It’s a small store and is laid out very strangely, with the cold food in the middle, and kind of along the back. And then a little gap, and some more cold food. Then you end with fruit and veg, which is completely backwards. It’s a hard store to shop in as the layout isn’t intuitive, and it’s usually pretty busy and not very big, so with all the back and forth I have to do with the way things are set out, it always takes a long time to get through, and I don’t usually come out with much. The staff are generally friendly(last night, though, our check-out person was very indifferent). Really though, the store should be gutted and re-fitted in a logical way and until that happens, I will only be an infrequent visitor.

So this branch opened in 1987… and mann does it look it! It just does not have the same feel and atmosphere as the newer branches. When I’m in Northwood, I just pop in really, so I’m glad this is not my local!

After 21 years using this store it continues its downward trend in service, and hygine. Indifferent staff and to many errors at tills. Revamped but all gloss. Too much damaged fruit/veg from lack of handling care by staff. Concerns and flies at open bread area.

The branch of Waitrose in Northwood is fairly small but I find it just perfect for my needs. I never do a main shop in it as it is too expensive but it is great to pop into to pick up a few bits that you need. The fresh bread is great if bought in the morning — there is no bakery on site but they still have a fresh bread and a baked goods section. The Rhubarb cheesecake from the cake counter is fanastic too! I always find it a pleasure to shop in Waitrose particularly the one in Northwood, it is clean and well laid out, the staff are very polite and friendly. The fruit and Vegetable section is a little bit small even for a small shop and it can sometimes be hard to find everything you need but on the whole if you are just popping in for a few bits its a good place to go. Waitrose currently give you tokens when you shop there which you put in the charity box of your choice near the front door and they then donate money to those charities depending on how many tokens each one gets. There have been some great local charities sponsored such as RNIB Sunshine House and Michael Sobell House and Hillingdon Crossroads so thats another good reason to shop here to help support those charities.
