Got there towards the end of the night and the service seemed tired. The food was pretty nice. I’ve heard so many nice things about the place I’ll give it another shot.

I managed to squeeze in here because a) I was alone and b) It was early in the evening. A couple of lonely nights in Norwich, and I felt that I was due a treat. Pretty enough inside with good, friendly staff. The menu didn’t look too bad either and the wine list was classy without being too wallet breaking. My starter was tasty carpaccio of Halibut with dressing and salad. I thought I’d compliment the main with a tomato and red onion salad. Ah. Apparently I wasn’t the only one to send back the raw onion that had once bumped into a tomato on holiday then drowned it’s sorrows in balsamic vinegar. One mouthful of that and I could have been eating a scabby dog for the rest of my meal such was the assault on my mouth and tastebuds. The fine wine that I had paid a few quid for may as well have been. Well. You get the idea. Add to that the coats are hung up by an unlocked external door(with a large bunch of keys in) at the back of the place and that the fire-extinguishers are blocked from access by umbrella stands, then the place starts to lose it’s gloss. Could be good. Should be good. I get the distinct impression that there is a little resting on laurels going on here.

I had a great time with my fiancé at The Last Wine Bar last night. We were looking for somewhere to have a nice romantic meal, initially intending to get some tapas, but after walking past the wine bar we were impulsive and hopped inside. The staff were really friendly and efficient, fitting us in last minute. They even advised us having a drink at the bar and ordering our food there, and then they would seat us when it was prepared. Since there was a great atmosphere, we opted to grab a bottle of wine(of which they have a great selection), which at £16 was well priced for what was a lovely Sangiovese, and soak in the great atmosphere. The food was great, we ordered from the bar menu, where most dishes were £8.25. I opted for the chicken breast in a mushroom sauce, with frites, which came succulent and full of flavour. Jen went for the stuffed peppers with a well dressed salad, which again was delicious. All throughout the service was so good, not intrusive just damn efficient. We left contented, having had a lovely meal together. It’s well worth a visit if you fancy something a little posher than normal, or just for a good glass of wine after work. A lovely little gem in Colegate!

Since I arrived in Norwich a few months ago I have a several new acquaintances tell me how lovely Last Wine Bar is. I celebrated American Thanksgiving here with friends this year, and am so happy this was our choice. The service, food and wines were all amazing. Thank you for the recommendation new friends.

The Last Wine Bar & Restaurant is one of those hidden gems tucked away in in a side street close to the city centre of Norwich. This is truly an exceptional place to eat. The food is amazing and at great prices, typically around £30 a head for two courses. They constantly change the menu so it is always fresh and new and use local fresh ingredients. The wine is also excellent and for those who do not know there wine, the staff are on hand to choose a suitable wine to compliment your meal, based on your tastes. If you wish to book a table, you can book in the bar area, or the side restaurant or the restaurant under the premises in the basement. I recommend the bar area, which has a great atmosphere. This is a great place for that romantic meal, or for going out with friends. Highly recommended !

We asked taxi drivers for their recommendations of the best restaurants in Norwich and two of them suggested the Last Wine Bar. So when it came for a dinner without the rest of the team, my colleague and I walked here. We knew the instant we saw the place that it was going to be a great meal. Linen tablecloths, sparkling silverware, wine and water glasses on the table, professional looking wait staff. We went in and while we were asked if we had a reservation, they were able to fit us in. I’d recommend that you do make a reservation as they limit the number of seatings to ensure good service. Starters. I had a fabulous delicious stuffed red pepper. My colleague enjoyed the beetroot and orange cured salmon. Nicely plated, perfectly prepared, I was sad to see them go. That is, until the mains arrived. I had ordered a the sirloin steak, which was a 10 or so ounce piece of perfect medium-rare on top of new potatoes, beans and mushrooms. If it weren’t impolite, I would have licked the plate. My colleague’s grilled tuna looked divine. Dessert was a vanilla bavois(sort of like triffle or gelatin, but… different) with roasted peaches was excellent. The cheese plate looked good, with grapes and sliced apple. A fantastic wine selection as well as bottled beers and Bitburger on draft complimented our choices. Service and timing was good without rushing us or being over-attentive. The total was a bit high, but it was a great meal and a great value. Two starters, two mains, a beer, three glasses of excellent wine. All told, £65.
