I’ve been here 3 or 4 times now, each time for Sunday lunch with my elderly Mother. The building has been beautifully transformed from what was the old Maids Head pub. The service is very friendly and it’s not stuffy at all, mostly locals looking for some good chow. The food is truly outstanding. Last Sunday I had chicken livers with chunks of real proper black pudding on a bed of salad greens, very tasty indeed. Followed by roast fallow dear that was so tender and full of flavour, truly delicious. Desert was a bread &butter pudding with homemade ‘sauce anglais’ that I have to say was the best I’ve ever had. Washed down with a couple of pints of Aspalls cider the rest of the afternoon was spent on the sofa, proper job. £16 for two courses and £20 for three, this place just can’t be beat.
