I’m not quite sure how many Wetherspoons a city centre can have. This is the third I’ve been to in Nottingham and was by far most grown up. There were a few random irks. The barman failing to put the table number on our order and my friends two starters being brought out AFTER their mains. This meant there was very little room on the table but the waitress was pretty determined that they would fit. Customer service is polite and friendly but don’t come expecting anything special. There’s a nice upstairs outside roof space. I’m not going to say terrace. I’d probably come back here rather than the other branches in central nottingham so it’s not all bad.

I quite like the Roebuck, it’s not my bar of choice, but I don’t cringe when somebody suggests going there. This is possibly due to the presence of various internal walls which break the space up into several areas(though not exactly separate rooms) making it feel much more pub-like, though it retains the typical ‘Spoons’ «big room» thing; this means the lack of atmosphere typical of the chain is not so apparent here. As always with a ‘Spoon’s there is a good variety of cheap drink available, with several well-kept ales(about 8 different ones when I was last there).

Service can be pretty poor here. Never enough staff and they never serve people in order even when its clear who was next. Dont get this problem at the Joseph Else Wetherspoon on the square.

For a Wetherspoon’s, it’s pretty good. Decent selection of lager and real ales at prices cheaper than most city centre places. There’s a good deal of seating, a pretty good smoking area if you need it, and i’ve never seen any trouble kick off in here. However, the place seriously lacks atmosphere. It’s an ok place to go with a bunch of friends or colleagues for drinks and conversation, but if you want somewhere where you can sit and relax quietly and soak in the pleasant ambience, this really isn’t the place to be. One other negative point, I think this chain helps to keep its drinks prices low by keeping staff levels low. On a Friday or Saturday night, expect the(pretty long) bar to be 3 deep all around, with only 2 people serving, 3 if you are lucky. Pray that you are rubbing shoulders with honourable drinkers who will be honest and say«Actually, this guy was before me…» when the barman goes to serve the chap who has only been standing next to you for the last 2 minutes of your 10 minute wait. To sum up, this place is low on staff, low on atmosphere, but low on trouble and low on prices. Good for visiting with a group of people, a good place to meet up for your first drink or two of the evening as you stand a good chance of getting a table due to the size of the place.

This is my favourite Wetherspoon’s in Nottingham… great beers at a great price and the curry club on Thursday(try the Vindaloo. it really is hot!) is legendary. This pub also serves a wide variey of local real ales. There is ample seating and further seating upstairs, together with a smoking courtyard on the roof(as mentioned before, this was one of the first pubs to ban smoking indoors — before the smoking ban) which even includes patio heaters! Toilets are also good quality and I’ve never seen trouble in here before. It can take quite a while to get served at the bar so best to go up and order rounds… it’s cheap enough too!

One of my favourite pubs to go to before hitting a club in Nottingham — it was non-smoking before all the others were, has great ciders, quiz machines, loads of nice seating, good prices and was opposite the Cookie Club
