The Old Original is one of my all time favourite pubs, I just love it. Everything about it: the dark wooden walls, the patterned carpet, the smell of rich food as you walk in, the friendly staff, the chips… EVERYTHING! It’s one of the best in London for rag puddings and better yet, they do double rag puddings! Sadly on this occasion however they weren’t serving them but it wasn’t a loss, it forced me to tea their famous grilled steaks! Yes, raved as Oldham’s finest and you know what, they’re not far off. They have an epic menu of steaks: rib eye, sirloin, fillet, 8oz, 12oz, 20oz — other than chateaubriand, they literally have it all! I chose the half rib eye and it was HUGE! I always go rare and it was perfectly cooked and melted in the mouth. Accompanied by chips, vegetables and diane sauce it was a meal made in Bethany heaven and I gobbled it all up. I also had the garlic, chilli king prawns for starter. They were very spicy but enjoyable and the sauce was perfect for dunking. Oh the dunking goodness! If you’re ever in the area and looking for good food, a tradition English meal and a warming atmosphere, this is the place! Enjoy.

Went here for a family celebration for Sunday lunch as we heard the pub was known for good quality food and portions. The Sunday lunch menu was very limited, choices of mains included beef dinner, sausage and mash or veg. Lasagne. When the food came, we were all shocked at the quality of the food. The mash potato was lumpy, the veg was still hard — we couldn’t even cut into our carrots or sprouts! The service was quite poor too, servers had forgotten to give us cutlery for both starters and mains and made several errors on the bill. All in all the dinner was a disappointment!

Probably one of if not the best pub for food in Oldham/Saddleworth, The service and food is above excellent and you’d pay 3 times as much to fiind similar quality darn sarf. Everything is home cooked i.e. no pre cut frozen chips and the steaks are the nicest you’ll taste outside of Argentina and as for the portions… make sure you’re hungry. The beer is lovely — Try the Warsteiner. The only and i mean only downside, is its a little small and its popularity makes it packed all the time, If you turn up without booking anytime after 5pm chances are you wont get a table — Book at least a week in advance its that good.

I wanted to give this place a five star because it does deserve it but last time I went I was a little disappointed with my steak but it will never stop me going here. What a place! If you have happened to find this all by yourself then well done you! I feel that it should be placed in a TV advert or something so everyone knows of this place. I have lost count of how many times I have drove up the dark hills dreaming of a bottle of red and a juicy steak up to this place. OOO I am getting excited talking about it now! And once you arrive, you do not want to leave. The place is small but adds to the atmosphere of a country restaurant and the menu is plentiful. The food is grea beyond words. They do not just do steaks, you have a choice of gammon, pies or even fish and curries. So please please please go here.

The Old Original is a restaurant pub. The food is excellent and will satisfy the most vivacious appetites. The lamb henry and the gammon steak, for example, are huge. You’re made to feel right at home as Tom, who runs the place, wanders from table to table ensuring everyone is happy with his unique table manner and sense of humour. There are themed evenings such as Curry night and Tapas night(with live Spanish music) which are worth visiting for. The only down side is, as this is a 99% food-led pub, the few people who seem to go in for a drink sit at the relatively small bar and make it awkward to get to. Although, as you can order drinks from your table this is not a big issue.
