This large and welcoming country Inn is very popular with the locals. The Carvery(pic) just has to be good value and is very, very tasty. I don’t drink beer so I can’t comment as others have done but my friend happily downed a pint of ‘Otter’, a tasty local brew, and ‘John’s Smith’s’ was also available. Parking is on site, unless covered in snow and slush(pic) as it was on our recent visit. On that point we had excellent service as a lady rang to advise us that the car park was covered in snow and did we therefore wish to cancel our booking. ‘No thanks,’ I said, ‘we are regulars.’ Back to the food; the puds are ‘scrummmmmy’ and again good value. H&H can be quite busy on a weekend evening(pic), a good sign surely, and for the first time on our recent visit we were given a table in the new seating area(pic). My general view is that you are very unlikely to be disappointed if you dine here.

The service is no better than average here but it is extremely popular because of its carvery. Personally, I think they cram too many tables into the space they have and it can feel a little claustrophobic at the busiest times like Sunday lunch. They are currently building an extension which I presume will replace the marquee that they use in the summer months. The food is quite nice but nothing special and the beer is variable.

Went to hare and hounds after not going for a while nothing has changed. People go here for the carvery. You pay for your ticket, go up to the counter and the carver asks what you want. A good choice of meats including pork and gammon which was good. I did find the carver was so miserable, no people skills at all. His carving skills however were amazing, I have not had a thinner piece of meat this side of a British rail sandwich so marked down for that. I almost complained but as I was with the family I decided to just load my plate with veg and potatoes. Good choice of veg and gets replenished often if they are busy but can be a little dry and warm not hot. A great British old style pub but can get very busy at peak times and holidays. If you have a large family with kids it is a good choice(there is a large play area outside) if I wanted something special I would not go here mainly because it can be just too busy and the menu does not change much. oh and get a more happy carver he really is depressing.

I love the feel of this pub as it’s so old. The carvery is pretty good though sometimes not quite hot enough. There is plenty of seating and in winter it’s lovely to sit on the sofa by the fire. we go there often so it must be good. Just wish they’d sweep the carpet in the pub and in the loos a bit more often. Just a few crummy bits here and there if you really look.

Very very busy pub, there’s even a huge tent for tables. But they were lovely to us, found us a table, served us promptly and well, and the food and wine was lovely. The Carvery looked good,(and was why it was busy) but we had a la carte which was very nice.

Great Food for the money. Carvery is the keyword here. Everyone in the locale knows the Hare & Hounds for its carvery. It’s got a good selection of veg and meat and the puddings are huge and to die for. One thing we have noticed after being patrons for years is that the staff are tending to be more businesslike and less friendly, might be because it’s so busy but it’s a shame. The marquee is great if you have little ones.

I have one word to say about this pub. Carvery. It is renowned for it throughout the valley and is a must visit. They do it every day and for a set price you have a choice of meat of vegetarian option. The selection of things to put on your plate is immense, and I can guarantee your plate won’t be big enough to have it all. My grandma likes it as she can take as little as she wants, and not feel bad about leaving it! The atmosphere is lovely although it can get very busy. I would advise booking a table.
