Lamertons Restaurant at the Coach House Hotel

Once you find this place you will be floored at the quality of the kitchen.
The restaurant is part of a hotel, which we are using for the night. Probably a 3 star rating– quite basic, clean, good wifi. However we were most impressed by the young chef’s menu, presentation and quality (quantity too).
I had the roasted chicken on a bed of greens, tomatoes, slices of apple, plus roasted potatoes that could have been tastier. Overall excellent. Husband selected the local lamb (the rack had three generous chops) on top of kale, asparagus and parsnip/​potato purée. Starter included deep fried crab cakes with thinly sliced cucumbers deliciously dressed.
Dessert – Arctic parfait. Come and try it! The service was excellent. As tourists from California, we really struggled to find this place. Directions via the web were nil and most folks in the town of Tavistock did not know how to direct us. Obviously the owners need to improve that; but maybe not if they are busy most nights. Prices seem reasonable, wine list modest, good, not super high end. Pleasant and worth the detour if you are in Devon.
