Lidl is a great place to browse for bargains. Not somewhere to go for the essentials. Brilliant for booze though — espcially bottled beers. Same brands(though less of them) for a lot less money. I tend to go for familiar brands where they are discounted. Well worth a mooch round if you have a spare twenty minutes.

I know everyone’s supposed to be heading for places like Lidl these days, but I haven’t bought very much the few times I’ve been to this one. Yes, there’s a lot of cheap basics, but not particularly cheaper than Tesco or Wilkinsons for the sorts of things I buy. And when things are cheap, you’re never quite sure what quality they are, specially with electricals and clothing. Though fruit and veg seem OK. I get the weekly email from Lidl so I can see when they’re selling something I actively want, but that’s only happened once so far. It is quite fun to browse when you are there, but not being able to pay by credit card is another negative.

I was a little sceptical about shopping here, after all how can qood quality food cost so little? Well the answer is to try it yourself — I was very impressed with the cost of fresh produce and frozen meat, dairy foods were very competitive to the usual supermarkets and they have a variety of non-food goods on offer each week. If you’ve got half hr spare then drop in and see for yourself.

A great discount brand store that offers a cheap alternative to leading stores. the range of items is amazing chilled food, frozen, snacks, and drinks. bring your own bags along as you have to pay for your bags but if you dont mind that then dont bring bags . staff are always helpful and polite i would reccomend.

First off — BRINGYOUROWNBAGSFORPACKING — Lidl charge for theirs. Second just because its Lidl doesnt necessarily mean its cheaper that someof the larger supermarkets. However, overall good fun with different varieties. Take the special offer flyer as you go in to browse through see if anything non-food takes you fancy. And be aware there can be long queues at the checkouts.

Jenachdem was ich brauche. PS. 1 Pfund für den Einkaufswgen nicht vergessen.

This is such a change from Sainsburys and Marks and Sparks, it takes a while to get used to it. Firstly, it’s very, very cheap. This is great for some things, where it doesn’t really make a difference how much you pay, but for other things, I’d steer clear. Fruit and veg is very cheap if you’re going to eat it that day, but will go off quite quickly. Other things like bread and cakes seem to last forever, which makes me slightly suspicious of dodgy preservatives. You can get all manner of other things, like electricals and toys, but again, bear in mind the durability. It’s a European supermarket, so remember money for the trolleys and for carrier bags.

Like Qype, LIDL is based in Germany. And it’s not just the country of origin that these two companies have in common. Both names have three consonants and just one vowel! LIDL stores have an ever-changing range of ‘specials’ items that include housewares, DIY materials, garden tools, clothing, footwear, consumer electronics, small toys, baby toys, stationery, etc. However, these are in limited supply, available while stocks last, and often not all items are sold in all stores at the same time. Popular items can run out VERY fast. Because of this, it can be useful to register online for their newsletter, which is delivered by email and gives you advanced notice about the special items planned for sale, and indicating your post-code will get you periodic information about what will be stocked at your nearest store. The sign-up page is at: Most of their children’s shoes are excellent, comfortable(and unique in design compared to UK footwear), which are a budgetary treat to parents as they are often at a price of just 2.996.99. But these tend to run out of stock quickly. Items that are always stocked, which are of particularly good value, include washing machine round laundry tablets, dishwasher soap, and bottled water(2 liter bottles of French water for under 30p). Note that they charge for plastic carrier bags(price depends on size) so either bring your own, or grab an empty box from somewhere in the store(there are usually plenty around), or otherwise just be sure that your car seats, floors or boot are not muddy if you are going to throw your shopping items directly into your car without a bag or box to put them in. Note that they don’t take credit cards(only debit cards or cash). Also, there is no place to try on clothing. If you need to bring anything back, you can but don’t be intimidated by long lines(the people behind you will just have to wait) at the till or the lack of a customer service desk. Refunds are given at the check-out till. I would also recommend that you should check your receipt carefully, and preferably before you stroll too far away from your till after paying, as prices are not always updated on their computer and although they are friendly and helpful about making corrections I have encountered a comparatively high rate of overcharges at this company’s stores.

Lidl is great for groceries — all strange European brands but everything I’ve tried has been top quality. So cheap — eg. tinned tomatoes for 15p. Has excellent range of fresh stuff too — the fruit and veg is really good. We keep going back for their cheap German lager which is surprisingly good, also their quality chocolate is hard to beat. They have some amazing occasional offers — I got a really good microwave for £9.99 in the opening week. There’s a good big car park right outside but don’t forget to have a £1 coin handy for trolley as they don’t do baskets(weird).
