Myself and a Chinese friend thought We would give this restaurant a go, however We were very disappointed with our meal. After we ordered(mixed roast meat — roast duck and crispy belly pork) when it came to our table we were given cha siu pork and an anaemic looking duck… It was dry and the cha siu(we didn’t order) was burnt. When we questioned the waitress about the mix up with the food they just said yes that’s crispy pork… we knew it was cha siu and told them this and they then said they don’t do crispy pork! We had ordered some other dim sum: the cha siu buns were standard but the Chung fun was chewy and didn’t taste fresh. We also had some very tasteless congee. Overall we were very underwhelmed by the meal and struggled to find anything to be positive about. I gave it two star as the service was quick.

Lyn and I have been here and have not been disappointed at any time. It has met our personal standard for choices/selection of menu, which is very comprehensive. We found ther staff well mannered, courteous and extremely helpful. I like Chow Mein and I find it very tasty here. Lyn likes rice dishes and has never had a problemm. The lunch IS good value and the evening menu could be seen as little pricey but you do get more than ample portions. Give it go!.. you won’t know until you do!!!

I loved this place. The staff was very friendly and attentive(though I do agree with the first reviewer that you can feel a little watched at times, but heck, I’ll take that over sitting around for 20 minutes being ignored any time!), the menu is very, very extensive, and the food was amazing! Personally I opted for somewhat of a classic, the sweet and sour pork with egg fried rice, because I felt a bit overwhelmed by the sheer masses of options. Not good with decisions! The dish was well-sized so that even a starved person would have trouble finishing it. Definitely going there again.

Paddyfield’s is alright. Two of us had their dim sum for lunch, ordering six items. Their dim sum Is the real deal, freshly made, and reasonably good value. Their beef ho fun was very good — perhaps a little heavy on the bean sprouts — with lots of tender and delicious beef and a respectable preparation of the ho fun noodles(i.e. not too sticky, not too dry, not too, too oily). The king prawn cheung fun was great with large, firm, meaty prawns. Their décor is a little dark and faded. Their service was terrific. They were attentive, polite and pleasant. A word of caution: it probably says everywhere on their menu that a 10% service charge will be included. It’s probably clear enough everywhere *except* it is not clearly labelled on the bill. I looked on the bill to see if one was added in the final total but could not obviously see that the service charge was added. So, I happily added a gratuity. Later, looking at their menu on the web with fond memories of a tasty lunch, and doing the addition again, I see that there was indeed a 10% charge added, buried in the total. Their service was really good and they got 20% from me that day… fine. Just an FYI for my fellow Unilocalers… there will be a 10% service charge included in your bill.

love this place, one of the better chinese’s in Oxford. Like a previous reviewer said, one of the few chineses that actual chinese people go to. The opium Café is atill my favourite though.

Probably the best chinese food I’ve ever had — very authentic from what I can gather. Bit on the pricey side but definitely worth it.

Really good value for money, especially their lunch deal(which is really really good value!) and great food. The service is quite slow and you can’t really go there in a lunch hour for example, but this is reflected in the quality of the food. It’s always the sign of a good chinese restaurant if it is recommended to you by chinese people — this was and I wasn’t disappointed. Probably the best place in Oxford for a quality sit down meal.

This place has been going for years and to be honest reports i had heard were patchy so i decided to give it a go and was not disappointed at the service or food, hot and sour soup was really tasty and just how i like it on the hotter side of spicy, my friend had salt n pepper chicken wings which i had a nibble of, also very nicely flavoured .For main course i chose the thai beef red curry which i enjoyed .On request they will also up or down the heat on your curry to suit your palate .I must add that one of our party was a little worse for drink too and the staff there were very good at handling him through using humour which is a bonus point to them, all in all a nice experience although pricewise they are not the cheapest probably being around 20% more expensive than the average

This is famous in Oxford as being one of the few ‘Chinese’ restaurants where actual Chinese people go. It must be good! There is definitely a marked difference between here and cheaper Chinese takeaways, and it’s easier to eat more as the good is lighter in general. It surprised me a bit that some of the dishes are really spicy — watch out for that! Best dish: roast duck for dinner or Dim Sum(like Chinese tapas) for lunch(12−6pm). Dim Sum is popular in Hong Kong and is great for indecisive people like me who want to try lots of different things without committing too much! The prices are reasonable considering the quality of the good, but portion sizes not great for the Dim Sum at least. The good thing is that you can order more food as you go along. In fact, even food ordered at the same time can come 10 minutes apart, which can be quite annoying. The waiting staff are usually responsive if you try to get their attention, but it can feel a little like you’re being watched while you eat.
