A much improved gay pub in Oxford since the current landlords took over mid 2010. Friendly atmosphere, a welcoming pub if your on your own, reasonable prices — in line with other pubs in Oxford. I’ve always found the bar staff to be friendly and welcoming, if it’s not too busy they’ll chat away, but if it’s busy they get serving. Recent re-furb has left the pub looking modern and inviting. Great place for a quiet drink midweek, a lot livelier fri and weekends.

OK now I think this is a brilliant pub but for anyone thinking of visiting this pub, there is a vital piece of information you’ll want to know. This is a gay-friendly pub displaying the rainbow flag so you can feel free to be yourself as long as yourself isn’t bigoted. This pub has gone through a bit of a refurb so that the lower level is now a very swanky space with mirrors and nice stools instead of the old couches that they used to have. The fish still grace the bar and the interior is warm and welcoming. The fireplace is beautiful and inviting and while I’ve never been in there when it has been lit, I’m sure it is just fab when it is on. The tables and chairs are typical so as you munch your food, it feels like any other pub. Wonderful place!
