Now renamed the Brass Monkey. Large modern retail area pub with cheap lunchtime beer food deals. If you came into town in the evening you might just have your first here because its right by the bus stops. No style or hospitality.

Price-performance is absolutely good. It is always full and the food is good. Their meal deal is 2 for £6.95 now. I like the Chicken Tikka Massala, I heard that the Chili Con Carne and the Burgers are good, too and the cakes for dessert(bogof) are also okay. But don’t get the Cajun Chicken Salad — it’s uhm… boring. They also offer one Sex on the Beach pitcher for £4.95(of course there is only little alcohol in it but tastes good). The place is not the cleanest(tables are always sticky) but it does not smell.

Hogs head needs a very big re-vamp, its cheap, almost like a wetherspoons but their always seems to be alcoholics sat there. They do do a lovely brie, bacon and mango chutney wrap that is lovely. The toilets are downstairs and are a bit dingy. This is situated on the main bus parade by the drum theatre. It can become very busy and has usually got a few old dodgy men in at lunch time

The Hogshead is ok, it’s nothing special and is situated on royal parade which is the main strip where all the buses are for the city. I think the pub is ok although the prices have gone up recently and i think that has put people off a little. Things never seem as cheap as they were! I think the pub gets over looked, and most people tend not to go here at night because they are further down where the clubs are or on the barbican where there is more life. I think the pub can get a little rowdy and i don’t like the fact you have to walk downstairs to go to the toilets.

Hogshead is excellent for food. The range is simple, but the prices are ridiculous. There’s a selection of meals in a 2 for £5.95 deal, and an all day breakfast for 3.95 including a pint. I went with my parents, we each had a meal, me and Dad had beers, Mum had a coffee. It came to about £15 for the lot. It gets busy, and a bit rowdy if there is any big sport event on, but that’s the type of place it is. Friendly staff.
