A great place for reasonably priced pub food with a great selection on the menu or blackboard daily specials, sunday roasts, very popular with servicemen. A great location and very obviously an establishment with quite a history. Highly recommended.

Good average pub. A lot of locals, servicemen and a few tourists. Large efficiently cooked pub menu. Several screens for the footie and regular live music. Holding its own in a difficult market and deserves to survive.

A good clean English pub, good beer, and excellent food. Staff are friendly and helpful. Atmosphere is just right. Especially if you are in to spend time with friends and are uninterested in the proceedings at the place.

My first stop-off point, when I arrive across from Northern Ireland, to watch my beloved Plymouth Argyle, is to the Navy Inn, Barbican, Plymouth. Their special, and what they are renouned for, are their sizzling steak lunches(circa £5.99 and available until 6.00pm). It is absolutely first class — the sirloin steak is cooked on a cast iron platter, with fresh chips, tomatoes, peas and onions. You will be hard pushed to get a steak dinner anywhere in the UK, both at this price, and for deliciousness. They have a good choice of ales, I normally opt for Guinness or Bombardier Ale, with my sizzling steak. The landlord John is a no-nonsense, but very friendly chap, and his staff, are extremely friendly also, especially Bev. A well earned 10 out of 10, and another member of the Best Of British pub grub list. Try it, you won’t regret it.

This is a very busy and popular pub situated in the heart of plymouth’s world famous Barbican. It is perfectly positioned between the popular Southside Street and the inner harbour. However, this is not a pub that makes the most of it’s wonderful position. I always find the pub rather dirty and usually smelly. Having said that, the beers are good and reasonably priced. This is a popular pub during the eveings and is definitely part of the Barbican run on a Saturday night. A place for youngsters and those that are not easily shocked or offended. Not a plce for kids

Whilst on a Wine and Spirits Course at Plymouth Gin I needed somewhere for a light lunch and found this harbourside pub. OK the music in the main bar was a bit loud, but they turned it down when another couple asked and this is the way that the staff here act, they are very friendly and helpful. The service was quick and efficient and they have an extensive and reasonably priced menu. I went up to their small roof terrace — now, unfortunatly the refuge for smokers — but it has several tables and a good view over the harbour at the Barbican. The food that my friends and I had was all hot, freshly prepared and well presented and I had no question in my mind that I would be on the net and telling everyone about this little gem as soon as possiblethere are a number of pubs in this area and believe me this is definitely the one to go to, the others are either smelly, unfriendly or over priced. DONOTEVENSTARTMEONTHEWEATHERSPOONS! Recently awarded the Plymouth City Safe prize, congratulations to the landlord John Buckley.
