Harvester

I was quite disappointed by my last trip to Harvester, especially since my boyfriend insisted that it was great. He was a bit underwhelmed as well, so there’s 2 options to consider…
1) The quality of Harvester has declined since his last visit.
2) We came at an off time.
~ Salad Bar:
Your meal at the Harvester comes with unlimited access to the salad bar, which unfortunately is tiny and quite cramped when you’re here at dinner time with loads of other patrons. You have loads of people crowded around 1 tiny salad bar trying to push their way in. Everything was extremely bland, especially the pasta salad. It’s almost necessary to drizzle dressing over your entire dish.
~ Appetiser:
We started off with the Skins & Wings dish for 7 pounds, 4 chicken wings and 4 potato skins. The chicken wings were pretty delicious — the sauce was yummy and the chicken was nice and moist. However, the potato skins seemed to skimp on quality hard. A few dashes of cheese and bacon on a large and thick potato skin. It wasn’t bad, but the toppings were pathetic.
~ Mains:
Most of the steak they have on offer is rump steak, which I’m against in itself. Rump steak has a lot of fat and gristle, and tends to be quite tough even if you ask for it medium-​rare. I ordered the Sticky Jack Daniels Combo for 13 pounds, which comes with ribs and rump steak. My ribs were delicious, but like I said before, the rump steak was very tough even though I had ordered it medium.-rare.
This place definitely has potential. The ribs were incredible and fall off the bone, which shows that they know how to cook their meat. Unfortunately, they need to step up their quality in other areas and work to not be complacent. I’m willing to come back one day, and hopefully I’ll have a better experience.

Waited 40 minutes for a place to sit, other than that the fppd and service was brilliant it’s also near Travelodge to so you could get a little tipsey. (;

Had dinner here tonight, being a chain and being super busy I wasn’t expecting much but I was genuinely surprised! Clean and neat, super busy at 5:30 pm but excellent service, seated quickly, served quickly, great waiter, food piping hot and really tasty. Maybe time to think again about Harvesters, will definitely be going back to the Pontypool Harvester.

nice salad the rest is rubbish!

I visited The Harvester in Pontypool for the first time, with a group of friends and was very disappointed.
Every area of the restaurant was dirty with drinks spilled all over the bar and food on the floor!
All our meals were terrible and not at all as described in the menu!
Overall I found the Harvester very messy and the meals were not cheap either!

The Harvester is one of my favourite restaurants. Why? Because not only does it offer a wide range of good value food, but this is reduced by up to a third in price during early bird times, and they have a salad cart (buffet) which you can help yourself to as many trips when purchasing a main meal. (This includes Potato salad, croutons, crispy onion bits, carrot, beetroot, pineapple and more). The restaurant environment is warm and friendly and you can also eat in the bar area where there is an open fire (and a few gaming machines for those who like entertainment). The staff are friendly in Pontypool and there is plenty of free parking.
