I’ve been socialising at this pub for around 10 years now. During the week you see a lot of students using the wi-fi, pool table and eating home made grub. The weekend is more of a mixed bag with mostly local people(Young and old). Great atmosphere, great beer, amazing food! p.s the Sunday dinner is to die for!

Like Martyn this pub is my favourite place in Treforrest to drink. My reason? –the glorious outdoor area. You have to walk up some flagstone steps to get to the outdoor area, the steps are steep and until you’ve had a drink they can seem quite daunting! There is a massive patio area and half of that is undercover and passed the patio is a huge grassy area with seating. But the best bit for me as a keen gardener and an allotmenter is the vege garden!!! This runs the entire length of the lawn. All of the lovely veggies are used by the Rickard Arms in their lunchtime meals. As I said earlier I’ve never eaten here, but I’ve heard that the food is fantastic. Someone I work with went for lunch one day and witnessed a member of kitchen staff picking lettuce from the veg garden, which was then served up as a fresher than fresh salad accompaniment to their main meal.

The Rickard Arms is one of my favourite pubs in Treforest. With a huge rooftop beer garden, a fully stocked bar and resident speciality shots, this bar is a great place to go if the weather is hot and the sun has got his scarcely worn hat on. «What are these speciality shots,» I hear you ask. Springboks are a range of creamy liqueurs that come in a variety of flavours, ranging from banana to mint to toffee, and they are awesome. With a price tag that even the most needy of hobos could afford in abundance, these shots are a local favourite amongst the surrounding student community. Despite the admittedly enticing allure of the Springbok shots, the real attraction is the beer garden. Situated above the actual pub itself, there is little obstruction when catching some rays on a sunny summer’s day… even if those sunny days do only come round a handful of times a year. A great way to spend an evening after a long day.

Really cosy pub. Serves nice beers, with a small local choice to choose from aswell as the big names. Food is delicious here, especially the breakfasts, which are also very cheap! Bar staff are very friendly also which just adds to this place.
