Avenham and Miller Parks are large, beautiful and well maintained by the local authorities. They are a fantastic place to spend an afternoon with the family or friends, and are popular all year around. Some of the highlights include: a large fountain, cycling and mountain biking routes, close proximity to Preston city centre and Winckly Square, a bandstand, public toilets(hooray), The White House(an old, imperial looking white structure that is good to shelter from the rain under), a pavilion, the River Ribble running right through the parks, wildlife and an ice cream van in the Summer. Many people head to the park in the Summer for free music events(such as jazz, indie and pop) that are put on by the council, which are very enjoyable. I spent a lot of time there in my childhood and early teens. One thing I will say, is that is is dimly lit at night and so is probably not the best place to go in an evening. It is also close to a few ‘rough’ estates; another reason not to go when it’s pitch black. A lot of groups of kids have begun to hang around the park, but usually they don’t bother you unless you bother them.

Lovely city centre park, next to the river, with some beautiful trees. Ideal to sit and relax and have a picnic whilst still in town. There are no swings or any toys, but there is plenty of space to run around, play rounders, walk or sunbathe!
