Otis Reading formed this football club way back in the 50s when he left his home in Georgia, heading for Madejski Stadium, felt like he had nothing to live for, and no refereeing decisions were going to go his way. First-Hand Experience: I’ve seen Reading play maybe 7 or 8 times, including against my beloved hometown Oxford both at Reading’s old stadium, and Oxford’s old stadium. I’ve seen them play at their new Madejski too, as recently as 2011, against different opposition. The stadium is 30 mins drive from my Mum’s so that’s why I’ve been such a regular despite not really liking it. It’s just too expensive. But the club itself is not particularly beloved to me, either, to be honest. They’ve always been one of my least favourite teams, partly because I can’t stand their owner, and partly because he keeps hiring good managers and then firing them… he just did it again, with the lovely Steve Clarke although right now Steve is surviving. But in the past it’s happened to Coppell, Adkins, McDermott, Brendan Rodgers… and so on. They were founded back in 1871 but did not join the league until the early 1900s. They are nicknamed the Royals and are way too posh for their own good. While their stadium is excellent, they charge too much for tickets, too much for parking, and too much for the male escorts and washboard ab rent boys available to their fans. Luckily they were the team that refused to merge with Oxford to become a Thames Valley United team. They have never been to an FA Cup Final, never won a serious trophy, and never finished high up in the Premier League. If you’re still reading, you can probably tell that I don’t like this team, so I’m going to give them a low ish rating, although I love Steve Clarke.

As a travelling football fan, I absolutely loathe the Mad Stad and every year I vow I will never go again. I think this year was the straw that broke this camel’s back. Firstly, we were charged ten whole English pounds to park in the stadium car park park and ride. Only when we had parked up were we informed that as it was a bank holiday, the park and ride buses into town were not running. The Copthorne Hotel at the ground refused to let us in for a drink. The ground itself is in the middle of nowhere but we ended up getting on to the back streets and finding a pub. The stewards are miserable, unhelpful and particularly petty and whose skills in arguing don’t extend beyond because I said so. The fans who go to Reading were Chelsea fans three seasons ago and will probably migrate back to Stamford Bridge now. Their idea of atmosphere is to threaten to beat people up after the match, to which every visiting fan laughs at them. After the game, you then wait the best part of an hour to get out of the massive industrial estate that is Reading and back to some semblance of humanity. Honestly, this coming season, I won’t be going.

Reading fc are a great team that play in the championship, which is 1 division beneath the english football premioer league. The Madjeski Stadium, also known as the ‘Mad Stad’, has great atmosphere when it’s 25,000(approx) capacity is reached, and it is just undergoing a rehabillitation process, to change the stadium, and made it more modern.
