We were looking for somewhere different to eat last Friday and a friend of my daughter’s suggested this pub/restaurant stating that they had exotic food on the menu too. She said she really enjoyed her meal so we thought we would give it a go. Firstly, it really is a pub — there’s nothing fancy about it. The tables are just to the side of the bar. The menu, as she stated, did contain exotic food — kangaroo, kudu, bison and ostrich. We’re not too adventurous so decided to try a mix of the three as a starter — 3 small pieces of each for the rather extravagant price of £15.95. Well unless it does all taste very similar, I would say that we had 3 small pieces of bison as it all tasted the same — and not very nice at that. I followed that with a lamb dish supposedly cooked in allspice and tomato, but it didn’t taste like that. It was served with«creamy mash» which tasted like Smash — not at all nice. My husband opted for the mixed grill and was very surprised when half of his plate was filled with a very strong kidney — so much so that the taste permeated through everything. All in all, it was not very nice and for a pub in Higham, £60 was quite a hefty price to pay for the meal — no wine or drinks! I did ask for wine and was told the only rose was Blossom Hill Zinfandel which was like syrup. Won’t be venturing back, but some people may well like it. Unfortunately it’s just not for me.
