A modern style Thai restaurant hidden away a little but well worth seeking out. A warm welcome is always assured here. Forgot my glasses but the helpful waitress soon found a pair to help me study the menu. I’ve eaten Thai food in Thailand and the food here is certainly comparable although possibly a little sweeter(maybe done for the western palate) if I was being critical. Our bill for three was just £46.60(OK We shared two starters and had just 1 beer plus two soft drinks) Our main courses were all around £8.00 — very good value considering the quality and service — we’ll be back!

Well, having lived in Romsey for just over 6 years now I continue to visit the Suan Thai both for restaurant meals and also take aways. I must say I have never had a bad meal from there, during busy times expect a wait for your take away as the restaurant takes priority, but you are warned of this when ordering. It has recently been refurbished which was quite a nice surprise when I visited on Saturday(12÷7÷2008), we went for set menu this time rather than choosing individual dishes and I must say that everything seemed to be freshly cooked and was no greasier(if at all) than the food I have had in Thailand, unlike what the guy said above. I really cant understand how Randolph can say just because a menu has 80 dishes that the food cant be fresh??? Any way all I can say is give it a go and I bet you will revisit them.

The jury’s still out on this one. Opinions in our group ranged from ‘very good’ to ‘greasy’ and ‘over-salted’. The Suan Thai has been established since 1997; I think the English owner married a Thai girl. It is now staffed entirely by ladies, including the kitchen. They have a disarming charm that easily deflects complaints. The Menu, with over 80 different dishes — is too long really to guarantee 100% freshness, and we noticed the microwave had been at work. An great number of the dishes involved deep frying. Having said that, there were some good tastes on the table, the service was prompt and smiling, the beers authentic Thai and very cold, and the ambience pleasantly oriental. Expect £25 per head with drinks.
